  • Thought that, but he’d need to pair with his phone to get it on his WiFi anyway.

Think I’ve worked it out though - transfer the gpx files with a USB cable. No permissions needed.

  • Why the fuck is my edge (lord) 25 not working anymore?
It will not pick up a GPS.

  • Have hard reset and updated within last couple of weeks.

  • Bought a new Wahoo Roam, it connects to my phone/the app, I can upload routes etc however it doesn’t sync any rides back to the app so can’t get them onto Strava to have a look at. Support team say that a few users are experiencing this and working out a fix is high priority for them. Extremely annoying.

  • Looks like Garmin's total online borkage is going to last a few days - in case anyone's failed to notice, Garmin's online presence, including Garmin Connect, has gone missing since yesterday. According to The Register their internal network has been taken down by ransomware.

This is why I prefer units which (like Garmin) you can access files on directly on the device.

  • I knew I was right. Now it's my time to shine!

  • Four cans of beer for anyone who can deliver an ELEMNT out-front mount to Lanark Coffee on Hackney Road today. I’ll return it Monday.

  • I’m only borrowing the ELEMNT (to replace my bolt that I lent to a friend, he forgot to tell me he’s in Italy this weekend).

  • Forget that, got one off cjr. I’ll still give you a beer if your turn up though.

  • Could you live with a stem mount?

  • All sorted now, thanks for the offer 🤙🏻

  • Just how bad is the BOLT for mapping/navigation? The internet is filled with opposing views on whether it's good enough: on the one hand - the screen is too small and there are no street names/the chevrons are crap; on the other hand - navigation is fine as long as you don't want anything too technical, you can use your phone if need be.

Is it worth the extra £100?

  • Extra £100 as opposed to which model? It was my first Wahoo, used it for a good while, I think it's good enough, provides zoom levels. But if you get lost you need to find the way back (or connect to the route upstream) yourself. But zoom (zoom out this time) still works (can't pan...) you can kind of work out which direction you need to go. Screen updates faster compared to bigger screen Wahoo models (due to all of them being e-ink, small is faster) so overall the unit feels snappier too. And the buttons feel much nicer compared to the bigger models. (I have experience with all three, switched to a mate's older ELEMNT when the Roam order got delayed and I had already sold my Bolt)

  • Just how bad is the BOLT for mapping/navigation?

Depends where you're riding. Open countryside with only a few roads and junctions? No problemo. In town, with tightly-packed streets and roadwork-induced mandatory detours? Total PITA. As with all things, the correct answer is 'it depends'. OK, most things.

  • And with Garmin claiming, somewhat ingenuously, that their servers are 'down for maintenance', rather than admitting they've been totes pwned, I thought this seemed apt.

  • It's... fine? I've had one for years and use it for everything, including week long tours. If you plan routes in advance I can't see why the minimal way it presents a route would be an issue for you. I very rarely take a wrong turning while using it, and if I'm coming into an urban area with lots of roads I just zoom in as much as possible - it works for me.

  • If you can guarantee that you can just follow the planned route, the Bolt's not too bad. If you're forced to detour, or decide to do a bit of on-the-fly re-routing, then I found the lack of screen size can be a pain. But YMMV.

  • I guess I can still record a run on my Garmin watch, it just won't upload?

  • If you are on Strava you can just upload the run directly to that if you plug a cable into a computer.

  • Yes, that is the case on my forerunner 35 anyway. I have 3 activities that need uploading.

  • This. Although, I do wish it had a reroute feature instead of just beeping/blinking that I’ve gone off course.

Thanks, did this using a Chromebook and it worked fine.

  • Compared to the Roam.

That's what I was worried about, going off the beaten track etc.

If you do go off track, could you not just get your phone out and recalculate the route? Or is it not that simple?

If you had the choice of either, would you go for the roam or bolt?

  • That's reassuring to hear, I don't do much on the fly routing, mainly following routes from the web/strava and then follow the map.

I just wonder whether i'd be inclined to go off the route with the Roam vs the Bolt.
