So I suspect that I can't do with my etrex 30...
Can you do that with your etrex 30x?
I might ending buying one.

• #4928
Mine looks like it's storing it on the Garmin itself, not the SD
E:\Garmin\GPX\CurrentSo, now I'm not sure if it can store it on the SD, maybe I was thinking about the Edge, which definitely does store it on the SD card.

Unfortunately, I don't know why mine (etrex 30) cannot be seen by any of the computer I have got at home....like plugging absolutely nothing...
not sure if it is the appropriate time to have a massive reset (Which I did before) as I am leaving on Sunday for a 2 weeks across Europe.. -
• #4930
So it shows up the SD but not the device itself?
I had an issue with an Edge 800 that I had to download the factory "drive" contents to get it working but I don't use etrex much so not sure what to do in that case.
Oh, in settings do you have an option for USB mode, like mass storage? Make sure you've tried changing that to see if the PC recognises is, before trying a factory reset
-
• #4931
Correct, my etrex 30 seems an alien for all my pcs (got 3) and mac.
Oh, in settings do you have an option for USB mode, like mass storage? Make sure you've tried changing that to see if the PC recognises is, before trying a factory reset -> I need to double-check this tonight.
Thanks hippy for the help through...

So, yours was set to Garmin and your PC didn't recognise it? Or you've not tried it yet?
-
• #4933
Probably mine is set to Mass Storage...I can't remember so I will have a go tonight.

• #4934
I may have misled you , looked at my garmin oregon and see that it is this device that has the choices of fit or gpx files.
I blame my age!!!
-
• #4935
dont worry Freezing,
thanks to hippy I sorted all my etrex 30 issues!
as suggested I switch to Garmin then plugged into my laptop and it works!

• #4936
Good to hear. Hope your trip goes well.
-
• #4937
I hope too.
I planned it very carefully but I have no clue and I think having no clue is the best way to get into adventure.
Have a nice summer hippy, if u pass from Birmingham or North Italy let me know and beer and pizza will be waiting for you. -
• #4938
Beer and pizza, I mean, that's reason enough to ride to Italy :D
looks at watch
I'll see you in 3 days haha
-
• #4939
Please wait me there, I am planning to cross the Italian border on the 6th of August...!

Is it possible to have more that one device connected to Garmin Connect (on Android)
I have a Fenix5 connected, but I'd also like my Edge810 connected, yet the app does not pick up the Edge
-
• #4941
Yes. I've had a Fenix5 and Edge530 connected at the same time.
-
• #4942
It looks like it's a phone / app / edge problem in that case - I can't even get the Edge to pair by itself
-
• #4943
I sometimes have to reboot my phone and the Garmin to get them to pair. I suspect it's mostly my phone's problem, as it's never been that good at doing bluetooth.

Great hivemind / hippy.
I have an garmin 800 Edge. The speedo bit was stolen with a bike that got nicked.
What can I get to replace it? Does it have to be garmin?
I see there's something called ANT? What is that?
I see some loads of non garmin bits, are they worth it?
-
• #4945
The speed sensor? Any ANT+ unit should do the job. I suspect I've got a Garmin GSC-10 speed/cadence sensor going spare if you want one.
ANT+ is a wireless communications protocol. Used by HRMs, speed/cadence sensors and power meters.
In theory all ANT+ sensors and head units are compatible, so it doesn't have to be a Garmin speed sensor.

Ebay magene OK?
My Magene sensor lasted half a year, a new battery didn't bring it back to life.
-
• #4948
Why do you need a speed sensor?
-
• #4949
Why not?
Nice to have. GPS is great, but not accurate.
-
• #4950
Never tried a Magene sensor so I couldn't say. I'll see if I can dig out a GSC-10. Unlike the newer models, the GSC-10 does require magnets - one in the spokes for speed, one on the cranks for cadence.
@Albb
4 Save the track
At the end of the walk save the track immediately: you do not want any extra points added! So....
Go to the Main Menu
Go to "Track Manager"
Select "Current Track"
Select "Save Track", maybe with the appropriate options
All three types allow saving to GPS memory. But my earlier hopes are dashed...
Sadly there is no option on the eTrex 20 and eTrex 30 to save tracks on their microSD card.
N.B. Easiest file name is the date (Default Name)
Scroll directly to "Done" and press joystick.
