  • Hive thoughts on a speaker setup for my campervan...

I've seen these class T 12V amps. Or do I get a car audio amp and some speaker... not really sure

    https://www.templeaudio.net/bantam.html

  • You may know this already but my experience of putting speakers in a DIY camper was that making sure they're boxed well matters as much as anything - which I found harder than expected due to the layout of the van (and the fact it was small).

I went down the classic car stereo route with a head unit w mosfet amp and 6 x 9s

  • 15w is nothing in a car/van. You don’t need to go crazy but you need at least 4x25w and two pairs of speakers, so I’d go for the latter. I run a fairly powerful setup in my van with 2 ohm, 10”’dual coil subs but the challenges are the same whatever you do. Expect lots of reflection and room modes which you’ll need to dial out, and invest heavily in sound deadening for the panels. Crossovers seem to be much more important than at home. As is bass :)

    What’s your budget?

  • Not much, I just need some light music. I have some bookshelf speakers so was thibkung about the class T. It's also a lot smaller than car audio amps.

Yes a long time ago I had. RE XXX 12" in my boot. That was overkill.

The audio is for when using it as a campervan, not driving. Ie cooking, relaxing. Just so can have music on.

Maybe I should just get a little Bose speaker

  • Maybe I should just get a little Bose speaker

    This, but not a Bose.

  • Which one then?
I have a cambridge audio one but it's not 12V and always sounded a bit tinny.

Edit JBL charge seems well regarded.

  • I have a jbl charge 2 or 3, very happy with it. Can fill a moderately sized room when turned up, charges fairly quickly, and connects immediately to whichever Bluetooth device you’re running it from.
Proved invaluable in the three plus years I’ve had it.

  • Maybe I should just get a little Bose speaker

    Yep definitely:)

  • I also love my JBL Flip 2.

  • Sa inteleg ca din 2009, nimeni nu a mai postat aici ?

  • Eu reconfigurez permanent sistemul meu audio.
    O seara frumoasa, doamnelor/domnilor !

  • Hi. Welcome.

I believe you're looking at the first post. The last post was only just posted.

  • Buna!

  • Are you aware this is a mainly English speaking forum? Someone might be able to reply but you’d get a better response if we don’t have to use google translate.

  • you’d get a better response if we don’t have to use google translate

You wouldn't have this problem if you'd been paying attention in Latin classes 🙂

  • Missing from our curriculum, as was Romanian.

  • Missing from our curriculum

    Not entirely, obviously🙂

Romanian is probably closer to Latin than any other modern language, but if you have the Latin you can also skim read Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese well enough to decide whether the article would repay a more thorough translation.

  • Hi.

I am also struggling with google translate. Not sure a London based forum can help with importing from America. If that is what you mean.

    Apologies if i misssed something.

You are looking for something rather specific I think.

  • Hey peeps
A minor gripe - my dab radio that sits by my bed has some noticeable hiss. I often want to put it on at 3am when I can't sleep, very quietly so my partner doesn't hear and wake up. But if I turn it right down, I can still hear it in the 3am silence but it's quieter than the hiss!
I'm only listening to FM at that time, am I better with an old transistor radio for super clean quiet listening?

  • Transistor might do it. I had an old Sony that I used to carry around with me to listen to TMS; that was great. Hard to find now, though. Also had a Grundig which was ok; gave that to my mum and it lived out its days in her kitchen playing permanent radio 4.

I quite like the Ruark I have now, although they aren't transistor radio money, unfortunately.

  • noticeable hiss...listening to FM

You need a better aerial. Turning off stereo will reduce the hiss significantly, so try that first if you haven't already. In a modern tuner stage (and if you have DAB, the FM stage is modern enough) audio quality will be completely dominated by the quality of the RF signal you feed into it. More gain and more directionality from your aerial will almost certainly transform your listening experience.
