Not bought anything yet. Currently panic buying bike luggage and probably taking my bivvy bags.
If I get my rear rack back off my mate for this weekend then I'll be able to strap my Macpac Microlight to it so if the bivvy sleep turns to shit, one or both of us can bail into that.
This weekend is basically a test of some options to see what the grrl will cope with.
I don't really want to sleep in my mesh summer bivvy in an open field though so will see what happens.

Not really, kinda trying to stay away from all the US stuff (unless some second hand kit turns up).
I've just ordered one from a UK store, if that was your concern. Got it as a spacious 1 person but with the idea my partner will come along on some trips.

So, other than my aversion to AliExpress, why would I buy one of these over a Lanshan (2ish person)? That one is 1356g (excludes pegs & bags) but looks like it packs pretty small - do you have an idea of the pack length?
https://bikepacking.com/gear/big-agnes-bikepack-tents/
In other news, it's totes gonna piss it down early morning Sunday right where we are bivvying.

Packed Size for the tent: 15 x 30cm / 6" x 12"
Looks like the pole bag is fractionally wider. My reasons, don't want to spend ages researching, it's nicely done with biking in mind, US colleague highly rates the company, don't want to buy twice... and they accept paypal credit.

Got a handlebar holster off @Aroogah for the grrl's bike, but waving a ruler at mine and her bikes, 30cm should fit either fairly well (mine are 38cm C-C) once I clear the shit away under the aerobars.
I think the Lanshan is also 30cm packed length. It's 210 cm long x 105 cm wide x 125cm high vs
Floor length: 88" / 224cm
Floor width: 52-42" / 132-107cm
Head height: 40" / 102cmIf I could get it over from Oz on the cheap I could save £100. Bad timing.

Plenty of love for the Gatewood over on Bearbones. I'm quite tempted to get one
In stock again at:
https://www.ultralightoutdoorgear.co.uk/equipment-c3/tents-shelters-c25/tarps-c43/gatewood-cape-tarp-shelter-p9838I done a clicky buy thingy straight away.

I just bought a second hand Lanshan 1. The outer on its own is ~415g, so difficult for me to justify the £££ for a Gatewood or Deschutes.
-
• #1859
Maybe I should rush myself a tarp?
In other news, it's totes gonna piss it down early morning Sunday right where we are bivvying.
£170 though and doesn't include poles or pegs? So it's a shaped piece of fabric?

second hand Lanshan 1
Was that a private sale or from a online 'shop'? Looking at getting one but would be good to avoid the lead times from Aliexpress.

45cm packsize makes it a bit more awkward to fit on the bike though.
Possible we might end up using a rack and throwing it on there, so it's still an option. -

Private.
If you want UK based, there are a few UK-based sellers on eBay that claim to have stock and shorter delivery times, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LanShan-2-3F-UL-GEAR-Outdoor-Camping-Tent-3-Season-Backpacking-Tent-For-1-Person/313088345073 -

Tldr: I don't think it is what you're after.
As platypus mentioned when I asked for thoughts last month, it's not really designed as a bikepacking solution as it is a poncho to cover hiker and bag, with added bits to make it a shelter. I'll use it for long distance on foot stuff where I want low weight. I have hiking poles so one of these will be put to use with it. I have lightweight pegs from my old Coleman coffin tent too.
I've ordered a S2S nano bug net as an inner. I might need to stitch a floor onto this too (threads on reddit about this), or eventually buy the SMD inner for another 130 notes but may be able to get away with just wearing a mesh headnet...

It's the priciest spend I've done on kit for a while but they also hold some resale value, looking at £100 when they appear on eBay / marketplace.
-
• #1867
Ha! You assume I might EVER resell any of my gear!
-
• #1868
Dibs the Lanshan 1 if you do ;)

Yeah, I'm just bothered that our dry weekend has turned wet right when I'll be in a fly top bivvy and in a proper campsite which will obviously have no shelter as opposed to be just sleeping in a bus stop or on someone's porch or under a truck or whatever shenanigans I normally pull to get a roof. I'll pack my rain jacket and that might give me a little more sleep time before we have to bail.

Bus Shelters of Europe
A novel by Hippy -
• #1871
Bus shelters all over Europe, post offices across the US, churches everywhere, the little alcoves in front of posh old buildings, multi-story carparks, the cardboard recycling pile in someone's driveway, under a truck full of beehives, on the grass outside a hostel, in the middle of a field and other random bits of "nice grass", loading ramp of a stock market, ground floor inside a block of flats on police suggestion (Pluzine). I dunno, just some I can remember.

You're feral. This weekend should be a breeze.
It would actually make a good book :) I would read it, for tips and inspiration. -

You're feral.
A high compliment indeed.
The issue isn't with me, the issue is managing the expectations of the other half. I mean, she's camped and she's no princess but clearly some of my choices are not what most modern women are going in for these days, are they? :D Anyway, that's why I'm playing it safe with a proper campsite, next to a pub, toilets, maybe showers? I dunno, I've never actually used a proper British campsite to be honest.
