  • I was being a bit flippant but these things are not so straightforward. Some people don't like the gameplay of Bioshock (me).

Thanks for the comments. Chances are I'll make use of Steam's refund policy if I don't get on with it.

  • Yeah fair. We like what we like :-)

  • MGS3, what a GAME! incredible! i am playing MGS5 at the moment, sooo good also!!

  • Found the shoot the aliens until they're dead comment funny

more annoying was the fact that there was no attempt at providing a sense of self preservation to the enemies.

BLYEEEEH! I VONT TO EAT YOUR BRAINS BUT BEFORE I DO THAT I WILL STAND STILL WHILE YOU SHOOT ME oh i'm dead.

glad you liked it, i think i prefer more stabby stabby games.

  • Yeah, definitely don't just take my word for it.

I thought the gloo gun felt clever but wasn't actually as enjoyable to use as I expected it to be. And maybe the story gets better later: I bailed out ... sometime after doing one or two EVA sections, I can't remember exactly where.

  • "what if bioshock but space"

On that note, anyone excited for the System Shock remake? Didn't realise there was a demo released so might pick that up later this evening.

  • The Outer Worlds worth a punt?
Is it Fallout-in-Space (for a 3 word review)?

  • Reviews were meh. Think it's free on Gamepass if you're Xbox though...

  • OW: yeah it's fun... it's a bit on-rails and not quite the same open world walking SIM that fallout is.

    play fallout again.

  • OW definitely recaptured some of the older style fallout feeling that there were many ways to complete a mission (although on occasion relying on quite min-max style builds). Story was somewhat tracked as @greenhell says, but it certainly bore up to replay in a completely different style, if thats your bag.

  • Anyone else pre-ordered Ghost of Tsushima? It comes out tomorrow. I'm excited.

  • i got about halfway through OW and ditched it for The Division (which is still a guilty pleasure) - you've inspired me to pick it up again. There's a lot of talking in it tho... the temptation to skip the chat is strang...

  • Just seen they've added No Man Sky to game pass. It got decent, right? Might give it a go...

I played through Outer Worlds, again on game pass - thought it was worth the time.

  • Piggy-backing off this question, is the procedural generation actually any good? Still looks like it suffers from the procedural oatmeal problem. Sure there are 10^eleventy billion planets, but is there any real value that that provides?

Procedural generation is hard to do well, and unfortunately seems to be used as a bit of a marketing crutch more than anything these days.

  • If you like exploration, yes. Everything is different enough for curiosity, and to be honest even before the massive content adding update, it was fantastic for a walking simulator-esque, exploratory experience. Definitely emergent gameplay in the sense that you'll enjoy it more if you make your own fun - but there's basebuilding, and exploration and resource gathering, and ship upgrading etc. Haven't even played a tremendous amount post update, but a lot of the bad press came from a phenomenal amount of pre-release hype, which was drastically under-delivered on. I went in expecting nothing, and was v. pleasantly surprised.

  • The base-building does look very good, and I'm a sucker for some good space vistas. Will likely pick it up in a sale as I've got a stupidly long list of games that I've bought but yet to play #firstWorldPcGamerProblems

Still believe the negative press over the lack of multiplayer (after leading people to believe it would be present) was entirely deserved. But fair play to them to sticking with post-release development and saving some face.

  • New patch out today contains even more content.

It's a completely different game from launch; amazing how much they've added.

Worth pointing out that the beginning is still a grind.

  • haven't pre-ordered, but am getting excited about it.
Watched this review, and a couple of others, and I'm glad it's lived up to the majority of the hype...

  • I played Hyper Scape for the first time today. Played about 5 games. It feels less polished than Apex for sure, it's very jumpy and floaty, like a cross between Apex and Fortnite. There's a mechanism about picking up the same gun to upgrade the power of your existing one but tbh I'm really struggling to find one I can reliably get kills with.

  • That's good to know. Think I'll give it a shot, it might save me from spending money on Death Stranding for a couple of nights at least!

  • Keep meaning to try No Man's Sky again but still feel burned by the wasted hours I put into it at launch.

11 billion planets, but all completely homogeneous.

Am also very confused by the concept of base building in a game that's supposed to be about exploring the universe. Feels like stuff that's been tacked on rather than being part of the original design. Seeing as I haven't tried it, that's a reservation rather than a criticism.

  • Been playing the trial of The Division 2 today. So far works really well as single player, tempted to pick it up for less than a tenner.

I'd read that it could be a bit overwhelming played solo, but the AI is incredibly accommodating (i.e. dumb). Despite the level design offering plenty of opportunity for flanking, they make no attempt to whatsoever.

Other than that it's a typically solid ubisoft game with a map covered in icons and question marks.

  • MGS series is the best thing ever

  • go sniper and you'll be fine soloing it. there's bits made specifically for MP, you can avoid those.

  • You'll be fine. You can partner up with people for missions too while you're walking around.
