Just cabled up Athena 11 sp front mech on a bike that’s been out of use for a year or so and the release button is very heavy, like it feels as though you might break something. Cable runs through the housing nicely. Any ideas?

That sometimes happens when there’s too much initial tension in the cable. You can add a bit of slack by easing off the pinch bolt and letting the cable slacken 1-2mm.

If the shifter feels heavy without any cable tension then the issue’s in the shifter.
