How does this happen if there are bids on something?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lytaloy-Mudguards-Hobbs-of-Barbican-Late-1940-039-s-vintage-/133450781503
Not that I was going in for these, but just in general thought that once there were bids on something on Ebay it was going to the end of the auction.

I think you can withdraw a listing at any time.

Huh. I did have a look on one of the things I sold recently, should have looked harder! I wonder what was bid for those mudguards to get the listing pulled.

A small fortune I bet , Considering the starting bid.
They were in very good condition but just mudguards at the end of the day. The starting bid is what I would consider good money for a frame :) -

I went out for a group ride yesterday, first in a long time.
My most modern working bike at the moment is from 1955 which has been fine while I have been riding alone but Of course the rest of the group had modern and practical road bikes apart from myself.
I decided on a 1951 track path frame kitted out in period equipment of course.
It had been raining the night before so I put mudguards on to keep the B47 (courtesy of @7ven) saddle dry. I also fitted a Mafac brake lever and Campagnolo Gran Sport calipers as that's all I could find in the parts bin.
We met in Bexleyheath and headed off. I should immediately have picked up on a problem with the right hand pedal feeling loose, but choose to ignore it until we were out at St Mary's Cray.
The pedal wouldn't tighten up and on closer inspection it turned out that the Chapter Lea crank thread was stripped and was getting worse the more I rode.
We managed to get to Cycle42 on the other side of Orpington and the very helpful guy tried a few things but it was not meant to be and I had to limp home leaving the rest of the party, heading out into Kent.

Note the missing pedal in the first picture and the lack of thread in the second

Crank repairs - try this outfit:

Lucky that didn't end badly. I have a pedal go on me when stood up on it out of the saddle going a up short sharp hill whilst riding fixed before. Full weight on the pedal at that moment...Ended in a broken hand (although weirdly not the hand that hit the floor first)

Oh.... yer! that sounds nasty.

Alright well thanks for the suggestions, however I checked on Ebay the day after the incident and they had a right hand Chater Crank up for auction.
Typically it went for more than I was expecting but I won it anyway.
It arrived this morning and it turns out that it's a different style to the left hand crank. I know they did a round crank arm but this is a far more slender double fluted arm than I've seen before.
I just need the left hand arm now for a pair.

It must be a later model as it looks like the continental style.

I may have one of those for the non drive side. Not sure if it's that slender though but it is fluted back and front. Maybe measure the witdhs of yours at the top and bottom of the arm and I can do likewise...

Makes me feel better about a recent run of buying something only to immediately see something nicer!
