Does something like the Deore XT M786 not work for 9-spd friction? With its limit screws adjusted accordingly.
I don't know, just thinking that it should do, as it's designed for 10-spd so probably has the capacity for 9...?! Would be interested in the answer if more knowledgeable folk know.

Not sure. I used to run 1*10 with a deore xt and rivendell silver shifters, but I had to file away loads of the pod body to get the lever to travel enough.
The pods I have don't really have a lot of material to file...
I've been thinking Sram as the do a 1:1 actuation, which I assume would work.. just seeing if anyone's tried it!

Anyone know if there is a clutched rear mech (9 or 10 speed) that works with shimano 9 speed bar end shifters, without having to grind more room for the lever?
should add, i use the shifter in friction mode..
