Thanks man.

Pricey?
-
• #18554
That's shit.
Thanks for the tip on coffee simplicity

Not if you like coffee + convenience.

$280 CAD.

Ah jeez man, that’s tough. Hopefully it’ll clear up (I don’t know how it works but I’m hoping it can and it does).

Data nerd complaining about inconsistent results?!
Pencil, paper, stopwatch and scales are you friend.
Granted I know it can be difficult trying to do the whole consistency thing with kids, had a toddler demand up while I was in the middle of roasting beans using a camping stove and a glorified frying pan. Fun times.

We have been loving the YBCR Rwandan over the last week, beautiful complex coffee, one of those beans that just smells amazing, just after grinding it releases an intense heady aroma.

That's rough Steve, hope it's not a permanent change.

Fuuck
Am assuming that is what you referred to in your email the other day. Hope it resolves quickly.

+1 I'm alternating with the Kenyan I mentioned and both are very high on my everything I enjoy about coffee chart.
Hope you recover soon @StevePeel

It's not always me making the coffee. And I failed as a scientist.
-
• #18565
Fair enough! Downside of having worked in a coffee shop is that I'm always the one making the coffee.

I have to do the breakfast routine as I'm not equipped to cope with two kids trying to get dressed.
And I can make breakfast much faster and have it ready much faster than I can get them dressed. -
• #18567
Yep, I was just giving the local price.

I've found the Aeropress far less finicky than a v60. Once you get your grind dialled in you can't go too wrong. Cheap too!

Got a Hario Air Kettle in this morning. It’s a revelation. Coming from a conventional kettle, it’s just such a joy to use. Highly recommended.

I like a French press done with the Hoffman method in the morning. Easy and leaves lots of time to attend more pressing matters.
-
• #18571
Oh but it is a pressing matter

My filter coffee is super bitter today. Grind size, water temp, pour time has not changed.
We over-ordered beans by accident so the beans are about 6 or 7 weeks old. Is it likely that stale beans is the cause? The last time we made coffee with them was about 5 days ago and the coffee tasted ok.

"If you're in a hurry this isn't the way to make coffee"
-

True, it takes 2x5 minutes, but you just leave it there on its own. Compare to a V60 where you have to pour clockwise for 20s, wait 1 minute, pour anti-clockwise for 20s, wait 1 minute, etc.
@Bainbridge aha! Funny that you actually don't press when doing a Hoffman French press.

where you might choose to pour clockwise for 20s, wait 1 minute, pour anti-clockwise for 20s, wait 1 minute, etc.
Ftfy ;)
That is seriously shit, sorry from someone who also drinks for flavour, not for forgetting (or remembering).
