How fucked is kinda fucked? Unless the stringers are gone it's possible to repair a lot.
The problem that you have is unless you go otp (doubt a staircase to suit a period property would be otp) stairs are complex, bespoke work and therefore carry a hefty price tag.
I know you are sarf but not sure where. I do know a good chippy that may be able to take a look for you and give you an opinion. He's based in Epsom.
