They're so aesthetically pleasing! I'd really like one too but I do feel like there's a lot of brand tax.

Don't bother, you can't take it with you once he comes for you.

Yeah. I mean that is what you're paying for. There's a YT review that sums it up perfectly; it's not a knife that you buy yourself, it's one you buy/someone buys you as a present.
This obviously isn't the same, but has a bit of that simple pen knife aesthetic

Nice!
Do you peen?
Sorry for personal question 😂 -
• #3533
Not yet. It hasn't had enough use to warrant it.
But I've found a place that does.
Unfortunately they're in South Wales, and I'm in South East London.ETA - Did you know that company has been making scythes since C16.

ETA - Did you know that company has been making scythes since C16.
No but I am not too surprised - the world of scything seems refreshingly free of ‘disruption’!
I splashed out on a peening jig too

Their early ones were really very good.

• #3536
Wherefrom did you acquire your peening kit?
I can't be doing with a trip to South Wales every time I need to peen. -
• #3537
Simon Fairlie does them http://www.thescytheshop.co.uk/

ETA - I also have a Japanese sickle for getting up close and personal :) -

What's the advantage of a scythe?
-
• #3540
It'll cut grass which is wet.
That's just one advantage.ETA - FWIW you can pick up an electric mower for ~£70.00.
A scythe, stones etc will set you back the best part of £200.00 -
• #3541
That's good.
Just curious really.
I've used a hand scythe and machete (+ stick) before and something which let's you stand up sounds more appealing.

What IS that!
-

An Austrian scythe.
Made, as they have been, for the last 400 years. -

What's people's favourite tool for clearing Sustrans paths and the like (so brambles, nettles, lianas, tropical forest, etc.)? Bonus points if it won't immediately attract the Old Bill when strapped on top of a Carradice (on which point I'm guessing machetes are suboptimal).

I quite like a Swiss hook, but I really doubt it's much less offensive-looking than a machete.

• #3547
Cut my first swath. Quite pleased with it.

Fits nicely in the side straps of my Macpac, but must admit I've never attached it to my Carradice.
