Anyone with an allotment?

Anybody on here heard about the poisonous courgette thing? Seems to be a thing for allotments down here on the south coast, something to do with cross breeding or a lack of water, but bitter courgettes have been giving people the shits

Wow, what a strange one. I wonder what is more prevalent, caused by hybridisation or water stress? No issues over here in the SW, but will be hyper aware of bitterness now though!

Nope, too early and they should have a 'nipple' on top. Magic mushrooms Sept/October. Be careful.

Alternately, cardboard boxes, the ones supermarkets ship (6) bottles of wine in and leave for shopping?

We do get the nipple ones in our garden too

Made a trommel this weekend. Road testing in the garden before moving it to the allotment for a bit.

Pretty much,, we have a load of very stone, weed and stick riddled soil at the plot that needs grading, same in my garden that needs clearing before making it nice (plans still evolving). This should allow me to keep a lot of the good stuff and only shift out the crap.

There are a lot of designs kicking about that usually have a fully open end, but that requires a convoluted frame of finely aligned castors. I used two old 26" wheels with all but 8 spokes cut out which gives a couple of gaps just big enough to chuck a shovel of soil in. Plan to hook up an old crank and chain for slightly easier spinning. Still a two person job if you want to be really efficient though.

I didn't realise that the loan word 'trommel' was used for this. "Trommel" just means 'drum' in German.

Plant id please. This sprouted up near my runner beans. It looks a bit spinach like but could also be sugar beat
