  • I'm looking to hire a small van for an A to B trip - pick up in London and drop off in Glasgow. Enterprise etc quotes come in around £300 for 3 days' hire. Does that sound about right? Or am I missing a trick, is there a service that specialises in A to B and has more reasonable prices?

  • How soon do you need it? Compare the cost of that one-way hire versus a return hire plus an onward train ticket or flight, or a starting leg to hire in Manchester and a finishing leg from Manchester to Glasgow.

  • That sounds pretty reasonable tbh, the cost goes way way up if you're not dropping the vehicle off in the same place you're renting it from. I know it's not the same thing but years ago I had to rent a van from Ljubljana to get 9 people back to Leeds after my van broke down there. The rental company were charging peanuts per day but wanted an extra £2000 if I wanted to leave the van in Leeds. I ended up just sucking it up and driving it back to Ljubljana and flying home.
