I had roofer, decorator m and gas engineer do work in the last couple of weeks and just handed them a mask at the door and asked them to please put it on. Judging by their reaction, everyone was fine with it

I need ppls thoughts...
We were supposed to go see my gf's parents this weekend. First time in 6 months. We all know we havent been in contact with the outside world for any extended bit of time. So whole of it should be fine.
EXCEPT, we had painters/tilers in to clean up the bathroom/hallway. It only dawned on us mid process. Stupidly slipped our minds.
We are taking some precautions while they're here, for us. the 2 areas are easy to isolate mostly. (dont judge... just need advice)
Does that mean having to cancel the trip to her folks?

Depends how you were/are planning the visit. If it's a day trip, staying outside and keeping distance (no hugs) - should still be absolutely fine. Also depends on how fit and healthy they are etc.

If it was me - if they are shielding, it's not worth the risk. Wait another 2 weeks.

In which case, you're no more of a risk than they encounter day to day. Go for it.

Look at the article in Brain, the guardian article doesn't mention that this 'data' came from UCL Queens Square for Neurology covid study group. If you don't know (why would you) is that UCL Queens Square is the best in the country for Neurology, and any illness disease involving the brain.
The article is here: https://academic.oup.com/brain/article/doi/10.1093/brain/awaa240/5868408
Interesting if you have read things like the psychopath test by Jon Ronson.

I switched off the news early on so have no idea if this is what everyone was saying.

So summing up the last few posts, we shouldn’t worry about catching it but if we do then there’s the chance of debilitating lung issues or brain damage...

UK government claims scheme won't add anything to help UK, I don't have the knowledge to evaluate if that's true or false. Anybody on here know?

Looks like we're bracing ourselves for a second wave here in the lucky country and Queensland has reopened its borders just in time!! Huzzah!!

I reckon it's more like a prisoner dilemma where the UK rather goes at it on it's own rather than stick to the pack.
To be fair some of the EU countries have been doing the same (ie closing vaccine deals alone or in smaller groups): https://www.france24.com/en/20200613-covid-19-france-italy-germany-and-netherlands-sign-vaccine-deal -

with rumours of a 2nd wave around the corner
for those who didn't manage to panic buy snow shovels early in the c-19 outbreak, poundstretcher is doing a good deal on them right now, get in before the 2nd wave hits and they all sell out
i'm also gonna make more of an effort to panic buy this time round as in my panic last time i only bulk bought dishwasher tablets, still got 3 years worth left.... anyone need any dishes washed, 30p a load
Thank you for the advice, as the government advice is wooly at best.
