  • I have a roof window planned, and a small openeable window at the rear - Hopefully there should be a bit of airflow.

I like the idea of a permanent awning though.

  • Awning sounds like a good shout, however my only gripe with it would be that you will miss out on the direct sun in the winter which is obviously useful. I'd try find a best of both worlds option if possible. Retractable awning perhaps? Or even a cantilevered parasol out in front on the deck that you can swivel around to block the sun on really hot days?

  • Check the sun's angle in winter vs summer for your area, most builders neglect to factor this in yet some real benefits can be had to take advantage of it's warmth in winter and the shade in summer from a well placed awning/window orientation.

  • Retractable awning perhaps?

Having battled with the old ones that came with the house for a few weeks and today finally gotten everything to work properly, I can recommend the phenomenon. I believe new quality ones are very expensive though (which was why we refurbed ours).
