Frame modifications - is this a stupid idea?

I have a Condor Acciaio (sp?) which I like a lot. It has clearance for 25mm tyres but I'd like to run something much wider say 38mm. Would it be possible to have the frame modified to do this? I am assuming that it would require a new rear triangle, and new forks. Is this a sensible way of keeping a frame I like or a stupid idea?

It's certainly within the realms of possible but after you've factored in the cost of mods from a framebuilder, and a respray, you will likely find it is cheaper and easier to find another bike to satisfy your puffy tyre desire... you could leave the frame as is and get some 650b rim brake wheels and tektro long drop brakes, could be fun...
finding brake calipers that will clear 38mm on 700c will be difficult, so you'd probably need canti mounts fitted

Edit: is the frame disc or caliper brake? if disc just go 650b...

Short calipers, so I don't think the 650b route works. i'd need canti studs, or disc mounts as part of the mods

It’s a thing... sure you can find those brakes on eBay for cheap...

It’s a steel frame, so you might be able to get the chain stays crimped to gain clearance there - but you’d want the advice of an experienced frame builder who knows more about the specific steel.
Although I’m not sure how well a bigger tyre will fit up against the seat tube. Either way, factoring in new brakes, forks and having the frame modded, it makes me think buying a different frame could be cheaper.

Having slept on it, I think this is a stupid idea.

The chainstays wouldn't be long enough so would need replacing, maybe also the seat stays. You'd also need a different fork with a longer a-c length which would make the head tube and seat tube much slacker and raise the BB. Not to mention the new canti studs.

Further to dimpling, I'm investigating this idea for some chainstays. I'd like just a few more mms, maybe 5-8 or so. I carved a dowel into a kind of double-ended bullet shape, chucked it into the vise and put what looks like a proper dent into a piece of conduit pipe. The frame in question is "757" cromo, I'm guessing that means 7mm/5mm? What's the word on this? I've seen online hacks that look pretty rough and some framebuilders doing some super smooth work.

not that it makes much difference in the end, but:

the 757 means the top and downtubeare 0.5mm tube with 0.7mm butted sections at either end. the chainstays will not be this.

5-8mm of dimple is a lot. I mean the cross-section of the chainstay will be probably no more than 16mm as originally designed.

Sure, it's possible, but buy a new frame.

How much could I safely do?
All conjecture because wheels are still to be built and tires fitted.
