• Further to dimpling, I'm investigating this idea for some chainstays. I'd like just a few more mms, maybe 5-8 or so. I carved a dowel into a kind of double-ended bullet shape, chucked it into the vise and put what looks like a proper dent into a piece of conduit pipe. The frame in question is "757" cromo, I'm guessing that means 7mm/5mm? What's the word on this? I've seen online hacks that look pretty rough and some framebuilders doing some super smooth work.

  • not that it makes much difference in the end, but:

    the 757 means the top and downtubeare 0.5mm tube with 0.7mm butted sections at either end. the chainstays will not be this.

    5-8mm of dimple is a lot. I mean the cross-section of the chainstay will be probably no more than 16mm as originally designed.

    Sure, it's possible, but buy a new frame.
