  • I thought you were talking about the rosette at first, I was going to say I don't think you've earned one yet.

  • “I bought this as you’ll grow into it and thank me when you’re older”

  • Just one example of many, ofc...

  • Conversation with Post Office, failure on somebody's part.
I've since spoken to my customs office and they have no idea where the package (bike rims from Starbike) is either.

This item was despatched from the country of origin Germany on June 3rd'2020. Unfortunately this is the only scan that we are able to see. If you require additional information you will need to contact the sender as the parcel is not with Canada Post as of yet. When the US customs release the parcel then it will be in the hands of Canada Post. I am sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

Why would it be in US customs' hands?

The last guy I chatted with said it was in quarantine in Canada, now it's a new story.

When an item reaches customs during the COVID 19 pandemic they do have procedures on place to disinfect and clean the parcels before this enters Canada. Not sure if this is what the last representative was referring to when he meant that this item was in Quarantine. I do apologize for this. This item is not in Canada as of yet according to the tracking that I see here. I do apologize as the tracking information is the only thing I can see here.

So back to the US Customs question, why did say it was in US Customs possession?

This item was despatched from the country of origin Germany on June 3rd'2020. Unfortunately this is the only scan that we are able to see. The scanning does not indicate that this is in customs however the item did leave Germany. Therefore there is a high chance at this moment that your item is in customs even though the scanning does not indicate this. You will see a scan when customs releases the parcel to Canada Post and when they do we will be able to provide you with an expected delivery date for you to receive your parcel.

US Customs! You said it was in US Customs further up, how is this possible with an item coming from Germany to Canada? Are we no longer a sovereign country?

That's right. Where does the United States enter into this equation?

When a parcel comes into Canada this must stop at the Canadian/US border for inspection before this item enters Canada.
(my name), is there anything else I can help you with today?
    You

Clearly not, you haven't helped me yet.

    No, other than a transcript.

  • Not sure it's "epic" but somebody has had a very bad time.

    Old but good.

  • Regarding parcel fail #25549

German post office ships stuff to Canada on DHL. Covid has caused volumes to drop so a lot of stuff for Canada gets put on planes to USA and is bounced to Canada from there. Usually trucked from JFK to YYZ. The US Postal Service called it "International Surface Airlift", so it goes on a truck even if you pay a huge airmail rate. Of course they deny they do it.

JFK is known worldwide as pilferage and customs ineptitude hotspot.
US Homeland Security like to snoop in everything they can get their greasy little hands on so that's another delay.

Basically any trans Atlantic traffic is fucked up. Trans Pacific, ie Japan and China and Taiwan is much better. Maybe because all those countries avoid the shithole USA and fly direct into Vancouver. Japan Post doesn't even send mail to or receive mail from USA at the moment.

  • Thanks, yeah was getting contradictory info about where the parcel actually was. I since sourced the parts elsewhere and just yesterday Canada Post came by, luckily my wife was in and was able to refuse the delivery (with the retailer’s blessing). Now I just have to deal with the parcel that is still in Frankfurt under DHL’s ‘protection’.

  • Incredible

  • Strangely some Leo Kohler shorts I ordered from Germany took just over a week to get here...

  • "Load Levelling" is a taboo word, everyone pretends it doesn't happen but everyone does it.
Cargo planes cost lots of money. If they don't have a good load they lose money.
Suppose there is not enough cargo to make a flight from Hamburg to Toronto worthwhile. The cargo for Canada gets thrown onto a plane for New York. That mail might take forever to get to Winnipeg. But the guy running the depot in Hamburg is happy because he despatched everything and his floor is clean.
Next day there is a ton of cargo for Canada and it all flies straight into YYZ on its own flight. Gets to Winnipeg weeks ahead of the cargo shipped the day before.
Another scenario is overcapacity on direct to YYZ, and surplus going to JFK. So two items mailed the same day have very different arrival times.
All this happens because every facility manager is looking out for himself, they are closely monitored on how much is left on site and how old it is.
None of this happens wink wink.

  • Must be heavily affected by covid though, German parcels to me have for years been very quick. Anyway I’ll shut up now.

  • David's description applies to shipping companies that do all their own air transport themselves.

The alternative method for mail and small items is for the shipping company to pay a budget airline to carry crates of mail, and at the destination airport a shipping company employee receives the crates airside. This is why hold luggage costs so much on budget airlines: less luggage, more money from carrying mail.

Airlines are still flying empty planes to ensure they don't lose their takeoff and landing slots and to keep pilot hours up.

  • Doesn't matter, RIP Bon Scott.

  • I quite liked that.

Looked fun. Ppl where happy. Probably 2019.

  • These people have no right to be happy and Ringo Starr should be ashamed of being involved (0.50).

  • Good ol' 2019. Things were different back then. More innocent times
