I have been running Hunt 650b on my 2014 for the past few months.. Started with WTB 47mm Byways, but they weren't giving me the grip I was after offroad.. so changed to 1.9inch Gravelking SK's, although these measured up at 52mm which was too tight for the CDF at the back, so just swapped out to 1.75in Gravelking SK's which measure 43mm, so a good 5mm clearance at the back and no issues.. pic below after 22 mile test ride at the weekend.

Looks good, but we need to see the paint on your chainstays after you've run it through some mud this winter before we pronounce final judgement.

Nice - good info. I'm basically after something as knobbly as I can get. I realise it's probably not the frame for this but im just wondering if getting rid of the mtb is viable

I'm currently thinking of selling my hardtail due to using my CDF more and more for all off-road duties. Would be using proceeds to get a 650 wheel set and some chunkier tyres than my current 700x40, so would be interested to hear your ongoing reports!
what tyres are they in the photo?
