  • Is this the right thread for dishwasher advice, or is it better suited to the DIY thread?

Our dishwasher gave up the ghost last night. Replacement needs to be integrated. Any tips/brands to avoid? Got a second hand washing machine which has done us well so don't mind trying second hand.

  • We got a Hisense based on Which recommendations (it was a Best Buy), I'd never heard of them before. Bought from AO which has always been reliable for us.

It's better than the previous one we had (a Beko I think), and it was about a half to a third of the price of the other Best Buys.

Miele stuff is supposed to be good. But how can a dishwasher be that good - what can it actually do that justifies the price over other good dishwashers?

  • But how can a dishwasher be that good

Yeah, this is a very valid question.

We had a bottom of the range bosch that washed dishes for best part of 15 years. Then something broke in it and it started to leak.

Got a Miele, basically because we could, and it's very nice. But it is double the cost of a decent mid spec non Miele dishwasher which would still do the job perfectly well.

Back in the day they were famed (according to middle class mums) to be able to be moved when you moved house. All other dishwashers broke once reinstalled.

Although an old school electrician friend said that was because most weren't fully drained.

We inherited an old one when we moved in. Not overly impressed. And like Campag it's great being able to get all the replacement parts, but if it costs you 60% of the cost of a normal new dishwasher to fix it doesn't feel like that much of a win.

Overall though I'd say the main difference is one in longevity and build quality. With most stuff being built to be replaced within 5yrs and being "feature" led I guess it's nice that someone is still making quality products.

  • The in-laws have a Miele and swear by them, I think they have a Miele washing machine and fridge. I think the customer service/warranty and the "years of service" has them locked in.
