Is this the right thread for dishwasher advice, or is it better suited to the DIY thread?
Our dishwasher gave up the ghost last night. Replacement needs to be integrated. Any tips/brands to avoid? Got a second hand washing machine which has done us well so don't mind trying second hand.

freestanding or integrated?

Always been happy with Bosch - could never afford Miele. Neff good too I think.

Stamp Duty cut coming immediately, apparently. I don't see how it can only last for 6 months though - won't there be immense pressure to complete before the window closes, and then no-one will want to move for at least a year?

Intergrated preferred.

Which recommends:
Bosch SMV68MD01G
Miele G7150 SCVi
Kenwood KID60S18
Hisense HV6131UKTop two are more expensive but maybe you can pick them up 2nd hand, second two scored a little lower but are cheaper BN

They are betting that in six months things will be better and the motor will be running again.

Mile all the way. The little detail of the semi opening at the end of a cycle to better allow dish drying is revolutionary, especially if you use tupperware.

We got a Hisense based on Which recommendations (it was a Best Buy), I'd never heard of them before. Bought from AO which has always been reliable for us.
It's better than the previous one we had (a Beko I think), and it was about a half to a third of the price of the other Best Buys.
Miele stuff is supposed to be good. But how can a dishwasher be that good - what can it actually do that justifies the price over other good dishwashers?

Ours does this. Though actually it does terrify the cat, and whenever we hear it click open when we're in the living room we think it's someone trying to break in.

Straight into no-deal Brexit.

Uk houses will look pretty cheap to Chinese investors
It’s perfect

Straight into no-deal Brexit.
I imagine any stamp duty holiday will overlap a no deal Brexit so that people will rush to complete before stamp duty comes back, thus giving the impression that Brexit hasn't had much effect.

But how can a dishwasher be that good
Yeah, this is a very valid question.
We had a bottom of the range bosch that washed dishes for best part of 15 years. Then something broke in it and it started to leak.
Got a Miele, basically because we could, and it's very nice. But it is double the cost of a decent mid spec non Miele dishwasher which would still do the job perfectly well.

I guess you're rarely going to regret buying a great product unless you bankrupt yourself and wish you hadn't.

Probably look at Samsung / LG if I ever need another one.

The Bosch one I posted scored joint top with Miele. I think Which are generally good bc although they make money from referrals most of their revenue comes from subs so their views are more trustworthy than other online review sites (speaking as someone who manages sites like this!)

Back in the day they were famed (according to middle class mums) to be able to be moved when you moved house. All other dishwashers broke once reinstalled.
Although an old school electrician friend said that was because most weren't fully drained.
We inherited an old one when we moved in. Not overly impressed. And like Campag it's great being able to get all the replacement parts, but if it costs you 60% of the cost of a normal new dishwasher to fix it doesn't feel like that much of a win.
Overall though I'd say the main difference is one in longevity and build quality. With most stuff being built to be replaced within 5yrs and being "feature" led I guess it's nice that someone is still making quality products.

The in-laws have a Miele and swear by them, I think they have a Miele washing machine and fridge. I think the customer service/warranty and the "years of service" has them locked in.

Also to counter my negative post, I was able to take all the internal plastic bits off and apart to clean / service as well as hack the emergency shutoff to stop it cutting out.
Idk how many cheaper makes would have plastic parts that you could do that with (let alone after however many years old it is).

House or dishwasher? House is sort of a product isn't it?

I’ve got the Miele G7150 SCVi mentioned above.
It cleans the dishes well, it’s very very quiet. To the point that I’ve opened it on more than one occasion when it’s been mid cycle.
Check the Miele outlet centre as well to get discounted stuff

Not sure if the modern Miele is worth the reputation. We've had washing machine and tumble dryer for near enough 20 years and the dishwasher 10 but I do see more customers having problems with the modern tumble dryers and even the washing machine exteriors don't seem so robust.

had an asko dishwasher from the late 80s in a rental property I lived in in Bristol. baffled me how well it worked - never skipped a beat... can't imagine it was too economic to run but certainly got the dishes clean. csb.
