I used 105 10 speed and mini v in cross. Worked. Would use again.
I have, but have not used yet, Trp hydro plus bar end shifter.

@Tijs
I only thought about lever ergonomics this morning on my commute. I really grew accustom to modern shimano shaped hoods so might need to re-plan as I was ready to splurge on Gevenalle.Travel agents look gimmickey and do seem to work, if I do resort to modern shimano levers, I would also need a wolftooth tanpan or similar for a mtb rear derailleur. Adaptors all around then.
Other option would be sram s500 levers or gut some 105 levers and use a bar-end shifter. But I really do like my controls close, especially on a touring setup.
@Chalfie
It does seem 10 speed would be easier, but as I am planning on a 1x setup, more gears would be better! -

100% agree with everything you said. It's quite the conundrum.
-
• #7530
Get 11 speed. It's one higher.
-
• #7531
13 speed is even more.

Problem is, I have been charmed too much by all those sleek looking Fern builds. :(
And I have a 7402 crank sitting in the parts bin since forever! -

It's unlucky though.

Weird, I find my TRP hoods pretty comfy - they do ship with an adaptor from new that gives a better, flatter transition with modern flat-top handlebars. I wondered if you were missing that?

My comment wasn't 100% accurate. TRP don't make the same long pull levers as Cane Creek, got confused with Tektro. I was talking about the Cane Creek long pull levers.
The Cane Creek long pull levers for V-brakes have a different (hood) design than the TRP levers from your link. Different levers unfortunately.

My issues is that the hood itself isn’t flat, it’s very much a V shape (upside down) than a U shape like the Cane Creek SCR-5/SRAM S500.

Exactly. And they're extremely narrow.
Cane Creek SCR-5 are excellent but short pull unfortunately.

Is there any difference with DA9000 vs DA9100 threaded BB?
-
• #7539
No
-
• #7540
You're wrong. The difference is 100.

Anyone try a 11-30 or 11-32 cassette on a Dura Ace 9000 rear derailleur?
Tech sheet says 28t max, but B-screw trickery has been known to work... -
• #7542
30 will defo work, 32 not sure
-
• #7543
Various sources say 32t yes/maybe depending on frame.
Might as well try it as I have more chance of that working than my fitness improving. -

Anyone using absolute black oval rings? They say to use a Dura ace or sram Eagle chain but I'm a fan of KMC and want to keep using those if possible
-
• #7545
I've been using an absolute black chainring with a bog standard sram x-sync chain on a 1x Force setup with no issues, so can't see why a KMC wouldn't work.
-
• #7546
Ah this is a 2x set up though, wonder if that'll make a difference?
-
• #7547
Shimano are usually conservative. I've used 32T on short cage Di2 RD that has a 28T "limit".
You will probably find it'll go bigger but it does depend on the bike though. -
• #7548
@DarrenFranks was, I think.
-
• #7549
I've been running AB ovals with an Ultegra chain. I think they said DA because it was thinner but I've had no issues with Ultegra and it's more durable than a DA chain.

Don't recommend pushing even 11-30 with a 9000.
I actually had a handful of bicycles with DA 9000 and the owner have 11-30 which really push the capacity of the DA derailleur to the point I have to convince them to change derailleur or go back to 11-28.
Advice; get either the new DA 9100 that rated for 30t or the new Ultegra GS version.
I do.
TRPTektro/Cane Creek levers with bar end shifters. Most uncomfortable levers/hoods I've ever used. And there are no other options. It actually makes me consider non-drop bars, or use travel agents in combination with short pull levers (which there are loads of that are comfortable). If you can fit Mini V's, do it. Or go disc.Bar end shifters work fine, but I kind of miss having all controls within reach. Gevenalle would solve this, but are expensive. Plus the same uncomfortable levers/hoods.
