  • How much would you price this Athena groupset? http://www.fixedgear.se/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24484

  • I have a Shimano FH7801 rear hub.

    I have a HG50 11-36t cassette.

Both are 10sp. I’m aware this hub ‘will only fit 10sp’, however I’m finding that isn’t the whole story ... and this particular 10sp cassette doesn’t fit!

I’d like a similar 10sp cassette for that hub. Is there an extensive chart for Shimano hub/cassette compatibility online?

  • Cos it's Dura Ace innit... The splines are different.

  • But which 10sp cassettes fit?

I think the cassette I’ve removed is 12-30t Ultegra 6700.

  • FH7801

There's your trouble. Shimano made deep splines on 7800 in order to build an aluminium freehub rotor which wouldn't get cut to shreds by the sprockets. It turned out to be more trouble than it was worth and they very quickly replaced the 7800 hub and wheel lines with 7850 products with a titanium rotor with standard HG splines. 7800 is the the problem child, your cassette will fit any other 8/9/10/11-speed Shimano HG hub and a wealth of compatible hubs from other manufacturers.

  • @gbj_tester would be the person to ask

    Edit: Right on cue!

  • But which 10sp cassettes fit?

    Compatibility maps are at https://productinfo.shimano.com/#/archive

For the 7800/7801 hubs, only 7800, 6600(11/12T top only) and 5600 cassettes will work

  • Thanks.

I thought I’d replace a cassette this evening. Turns out I’m stuck with Ultegra 6700 cassettes forever ... or replacement wheels.

  • Not really, get a new freehub body...

  • get a new freehub body

The 7800 freehub attachment is different from everything else, more like a boutique hub than a conventional Shimano one. There is no chance of getting a freehub rotor with conventional HG splines which will also fit the 7800 hub shell.

  • I stand corrected! ;)

  • Ideal. This is what I was after.

    I think I have a 5600 cassette here with a 6700 lock ring then.

    Thanks again.

  • Oh man, I'm so sorry... That blows...

  • Has anyone got any good road routes around York? Something about 100 miles with a fair bit of climbing would be ideal

  • Try getting over to Rosedale Chimney. Take pretty much any route there, I'll try to get a map out tomorrow and get some more useful stuff together for you. It's where I grew up

  • I've got a few 6700 cassettes if you want to stock up.

  • 6700

Check the spline depth. Because the 7800 hub design had already been dumped before 6700 was released, the compatibility charts are silent on the question, but Shimano may have carried over the 7800 compatibility from 6600, since 6700 would probably have been signed off before they saw the error of their ways re. 7800.

  • Sorry about the poor photo, it was a long way away :-)

What sort of ship is this?

  • A semi-submersible ship for carrying other ships.

  • Ah, thank you.. That's an impressive beast :-)

And actually after more detective work, it is the GPO Amethyst https://www.myshiptracking.com/?mmsi=538007705

  • I recently bought a garment online, it arrived and didn’t fit, so informed the shop and returned it via Royal Mail signed for service. Royal Mail have attempted 5 deliveries but their delivery time is before the shop open. The sorting office is open for collections between 7 and 9 am which is also before the shop staff are working. When I contacted the shop they told me this has been a problem since the pandemic started, which leaves me wondering why they didn’t instruct me to use an alternative delivery service when I notified them of my intention to send the garment back.

What can I do to resolve this?

  • What solution have they offered? Will the parcel eventually come back to you?

I suspect distance selling regs/sale of goods act might be a useful stick to beat them with; otherwise frozen sausages by courier not RM?

  • They are telling me to get Royal Mail to redeliver during their opening hours - I can’t imagine RM will reschedule their postal routes for one item, also it’s impossible to get hold of them.

All I can do is request another delivery attempt.

Long term the item may get back to me, but probably outside the 14 day period and I am out of pocket until this happens.

  • This Which page suggests that if you've got proof of postage back, they need to refund you within 14 days of the date of posting; presumably their inability to get to a sorting office is their problem, not yours?
    https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/regulation/consumer-contracts-regulations#cancelling-goods-and-services

Edit - the text you want to quote at them is regulation 34 para 5 of the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013:

    (5) If the contract is a sales contract and the trader has not offered to collect the goods, the time [for a refund] is the end of 14 days after

(a)the day on which the trader receives the goods back, or
(b)if earlier, the day on which the consumer supplies evidence of having sent the goods back.

    Trading standards?

  • thank you so much for the advice, i couldn't find this on the which website, but really useful

turns out the post office had so much stuff for the shop that they have ended up making an additional delivery to them with multiple uncollected parcels and mine has now been signed for.
