Stop buying flash kettles - they just give up and die. Get a cheapy basic 3kW plastic kettle and it'll probably see you through. A stovetop hand-burner is probably not the answer!

And whatever you do, regardless of any vouchers you may have been gifted and regardless of any special offers, don't under any circumstances buy a smeg kettle.
Who in their right fucking mind designs a soft opening and closing kettle lid? Why would anybody want to wait six or seven seconds for the lid to open and then have to push against a spring to close it again? Madness!

We have one because it matches the other stuff in the kitchen. The part that annoys me the most is it weighs like 2kg before you even put any water in, makes it really hard to judge how full it is
-

That said, ignoring the fact they cost £100, weigh a ton and take ages to open and close, they do boil water well. Not a bad pour either.
-
• #18481
Really? Mine drips. I'm not a fan, but I'm not the one that insisted on buying matching appliances.

Its all in the wrist action.
Ours drips if you pour quickly.

Well we haven’t bought a new one yet, we were perfectly happy with the 2L Dualit until the wife fatally injured it with a descaling fail. Now the switch has a mind of it’s own and will randomly turn off before it’s boiled, usually about three times. We’ll probably end up getting the same again.

They're too demanding

'ooooh look at me I'm hot and whistely, come and pay me attention NOW'
No time for that sort of behaviour

We have this, and have no complaints. Also pretty sure we didn't pay that much.

Ive had cheapy ones and they are terrible. We also get through one every 6 months at the office. I figure I have already condemned too may kettles to a 10,000 year landfill decomposition. I cant bring my self to continue doing it. Hence my thought of intergenerational cast iron.
Not had any of the drippy issues with mine and in its defence it 3 years old and not dead yet so probably my best kettle so far.

The actual reason is we're moving house and new house is induction and kettle won't work on it. I think other than the whistling stove top kettles are great and last ages
-
• #18490
If you like an analogue kettle, get one for the induction hob. Will boil just as fast as an electric kettle.

Is your les creuset not iron or steel then ?
-
• #18492
dunno but it doesn't work on induction
-
• #18493
I refused to replace our cheap as chips plastic kettle until it died. Of course that was fucking 10 years ago and the bastard won't quit. If it does die it will be replaced with something cheap and steel.

@Tenderloin we've had one of these for about 6 years. Works great, looks ok, would recommend it.
