  • Ha, you might be, but solid advice. Thanks guys.

  • Bought a replacement button for my 1000 and then I'll sell it to recoup some of the cost of an 830. Don't fancy a replacement unit that is also out of warranty. Anyone want a repaired 1000?

  • Is there a quick way to delete all the saved locations off a Garmin 1030, short of a factory reset?

  • plug it in to computer, can you see a folder that might be all of the saved locations? i don't have my Garmin to hand but somewhere in the mass storage could be it.

  • The locations are saved in a fit file, delete that.

    locations.fit in the locations folder

  • Are Garmin Edge units still limited to 100 segments on them? I read that they've put all of trailforks on there so you think synching more segments wouldnt be beyond them.

  • Spanks peeps I'll have a look.

Anything to speed up the screen redraws on this bloody thing.

  • I used usb-otg for moving routes to my edge 810 and activities to strava (had to use the 'desktop' version of the website - not sure about the app) a few years ago on a tour. Had to be careful not to leave it plugged in though, it would charge from my phone and drain it pretty quickly.

  • Make sure you have only one map active at a time helps speed up redraw.

  • I normally only have UK active but I may've left some others enabled during last year's racing. Let me have a look at that too.

  • Enabled: Base, Garmin Cycle Map NE, Garmin DEM map, Garmin Geocode map EU, Garmin cycle map EU SW

All my OSM ones are disabled.

Any idea which of the ones above I should actually enabled for UK?

  • IIRC you only need the Garmin Cycle Map NE functional for the UK.

If you need address search on the map you need geocode enabled.

The DEM is elevation data, up to you if you enable it or not.

  • NE? Really? I think I assumed we were SW so disabled that along with the other stuff. I didn't notice any difference. I'll have to check. It's still feckin slow compared to the 1000 though, even with all the extra stuff disabled and locations killed, etc. It's easy to work around on the road but off-road when you can't be taking your eyes off tracks so much it's much trickier to take note of the travel direction. Only other thing I could try is disable the screen rotation feature and try to work it out based on the arrow direction along. Or use my etrex.

  • Want a Garmin FR35?

  • Do children need expensive watches? What's she doing, monitoring heartrate, calories, etc? Seems madness.

However, I do recall seeing some cheaper units in decathlon a while ago, if I'm right some were aimed at children. I may be wrong though.

  • Did you sort that? Kick up a fuss, it's a known issue and pile of shit.

  • Yeah, search the thread for my own 1000 button story.

They offered some ridic whole unit replacement price. There's 3d printed solutions online or DIY sugru type fixes too. I've just left mine as a turbo computer for now and turn it on with a pen.

  • In the end they offered me 20% off their store and I can keep the knackered one. Trying for 40% (which I had before) but i found a guy in Belgium selling 3D printed button covers for 12e. It works but even with silicone all over it I feel it’s a bit of a bodge.

  • Has anyone had an issue with a Wahoo Bolt and cracked screen? My GF bought one at the end of May and dropped it this evening (she's gutted). Has anyone been able to fix theirs or have run theirs for years and not had a problem? If so I'd just swap with mine and take the hit with the bad screen

  • 50 pound question...

If I get a ex-display 520 plus for £150 or will the battery be so spent that I'll regret it? Is it easy to buy a new battery and replace the old one?

  • If I lend my Wahoo Bolt to @rnwatson , what’s the easiest way he can get routes onto it without wiping all my settings etc? Not gonna lend him my phone too...

  • Upload his routes to your strava/preferred mapping app then sync?
