  • Three Peaks? Not exactly prairie land is it?

Not exactly, no, although as you'll know from experience the Po valley between Milan and Turin is flaaaaaaaaaaaaat. And prairie-ish.

LB30? 30mm? That IS a shallow wheel in my world.
Or is that 30 wide, 56 deep?

    56 deep, 30 wide. These:

  • 40 dollars difference.

Hmmm, that makes it a closer call. Personally I'd still go with Sapim, but as @mdcc_tester pointed out, vast numbers of wheels are made with Pillar spokes and are just fine. Bottom line, you'll be fine with either.

  • I have 30mm deep U and 38mm deep V, both 20/24, both Pillar. No problems in 5 years, even at a currently fat 81kg.

  • I have 30mm deep U and 38mm deep V, both 20/24, both Pillar. No problems in 5 years, even at a currently fat 81kg.

Ps; predictably shite local road surfaces.

  • Yeah, after TCR err I forget, I'm not running deep wheels in ultras again. No fucking valve extenders in my future!

  • Cool, thanks for that. I can't imagine 28c would me an issue on a disc Caad 12, unless anyone wants to tell me different?

  • My caad10 disc was fine with 28s on some Hunt wheels, can't see your caad12 would be worse

  • I had Schwalbe Ones in 28 on 21mm wide Hed rims in a caad12 disc. Wasn't super tight

  • Pressed the buy button on some 36mm deep LB rim brake wheels with Bitex hubs. Gone for the Pillar spokes with brass nipples. Supposedly around 1.35kg the pair. We'll see.

  • Good shout, I have the 36mm rims. They're lovely

  • How does the shipping work with Light Bicycle? More specifically, the tax/import. Their delivery page suggests they have a pre-paid option, but all I got for postage on a rim was £35 delivery via EMS, tax not included.

  • They have an option called XDB which is more expensive but which should cover the tax in advance. No idea how it works though. If you use EMS then you'll have you'll have to pay import duty and VAT.

  • Tempted to stick with one of the better eBay options, but I suppose you’re paying import duty and VAT on those too..

  • One way or another, you're always going to pay shipping and taxes. The advantage of buying direct from China is that you don't have a local distributor taking a profit margin on those elements too.

  • I used the pre paid in advance mainly because lazy and CBA to deal with paying duties and waiting longer. worked fine.

  • Anyone here with experience from the Omnium New Skool wheels?
    https://omniumcargo.dk/shop/product/omnium-new-skool-wheels/

As per Omnium the rims are 19mm internal and 24mm external width, weight 980g front and 1045g rear which seems quite decent at the price point.

  • seeing as I'll be using my reserve front wheel when the dynamo is not needed, anyone know where to look for budget gravel wheelsets? Will be running 43mm tubeless rock'nroad's. Quick release but don't care about the weight as it's only for a few times/month. Is there anything regarded as a good budget option?

  • Does anyone have opinions on or experience of Mavic Ksyrium UST?

  • were there ever non-tubeless ardennes? if so how can I tell? Mine are 19mm internal, maybe @Dick knows?

  • Yours is 19mm external aswell.....

  • Anyone have any experience or used the Mavic UST wheelset?

  • The ones you get with tubeless tires mounted? Got a few for costumers, chug sealant trough the valve, pump and go, no tools or special knowledge required.

  • Yeah, specifically for their rim brake.

Thinking to upgrade my current wheelset for something for modern, as like to keep the mavic theme. Never used tubeless set up properly and just wanted to know people’s feedback in these tubeless set up and how often people top up/clean the sealant.

  • I use the open pro UST rims, some tyres, specifically Panaracer, are tight to mount (sore thumbs), but once on, tubeless set up is easy. Usually throw in a full small bottle of sealant, then top up at 6 month intervals, never had any problems (so far......).
