No particular training; they're both very used to longer distances and they're both alright at climbing. If you can persuade folk to come and "support" you throughout the day, they said that really helped. Also having a car full of food / water etc. It probably helped that they did it as a pair, but I guess if you're happy with your own company that aspect of it won't be a problem.
