Some digging confirmed that the black aluminium bagman 2 I linked was recalled for breaking too often.
I think these are a new product designed to replace it. https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/luggage/carradice-bagman-stabiliser-struts/
Though once you've paid 50 quid for the support plus another 20 for these support supports it all starts getting a bit "what is the point"

Carradice are pretty good at customer support; if you emailed them they might sell you an expedition loop so you could convert your bagman?

If useful, for me it wasn't the supports that actually broke - it was the main bagman bag holding bit itself that snapped as the aluminium wasn't strong enough. The support rods seemed fine.

The bagman expedition 2 with the supports isn't being sold anymore, but the supports are still sold separately. The supports are great and seem really solid to me.
