“Build yourself an SQR rack” I said.
“It’ll be simple” I said.

Whoah, got any full profile shots? Interested in bag angle.

Will get some soon. Soaking the flux off it just now.
It's quite upright compared to how it'd hang from the loops.

That's what I figured.

Nice. What does it weigh?
-

264g.
But I think it needs beefing up. Not too happy with the top straps just attaching to one piece of the weedy tubing.

So, annoyingly, what seemed like tons of clearance behind that saddle on the in-line post was not enough for the setback I actually run. Had to slide the saddle forward a bit to get it to even mount but the bits that go in the SQR block are mild steel and I have stainless round bar on the way so was going to be redoing them anyway so I might just move the upper one a little and it should be ok.
The tubing is very lightweight but I have used it to build racks in the past and they haven’t broken so we will see.
The tubing was actually salvaged from an Ikea trivet so buying thicker walled stuff is always an option.

Thanks for the pic, tidy job there.

Shame you didnt have this up and running for the IKEA ride last year. It would have been fitting.
Smart work!

This is awesome. Love the source of the tubes!
Based on the recommendation of the forum, I'm now looking to buy a Carradice saddle bag.
Don't suppose anyone has one for sale? -

Ande, if you build mk II and ever want to sell prototype mkI let me know!

Whilst trying to use my "new" super c today I realised that I have the "bagman sport" support not the "bagman expedition" support and thus it doesn't fit. Frustrating because it's really only the support I need. Don't suppose anyone has one lying around they could sell or swap?

The bagman expedition 2 with the supports isn't being sold anymore, but the supports are still sold separately. The supports are great and seem really solid to me.

Some digging confirmed that the black aluminium bagman 2 I linked was recalled for breaking too often.
I think these are a new product designed to replace it. https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/luggage/carradice-bagman-stabiliser-struts/
Though once you've paid 50 quid for the support plus another 20 for these support supports it all starts getting a bit "what is the point"

Carradice are pretty good at customer support; if you emailed them they might sell you an expedition loop so you could convert your bagman?

Stuck the SQR and rack I made on my commuter which has an in-line post and popped up to my folks to collect a parcel and some clamps my dad was getting rid of.
Little bit of bum contact, mostly track standing at lights. Would be worse on a set back post. No thigh contact.
Dropped a couple of those big bus stop kerbs and then dropped the rear rend from a couple feet back at the garage. I think the kerb drops bent it slightly and then the big drops at the garage did some real damage but not where I expected. The single bar where the top straps attach is fine.
This tubing measures about 7mm od x 0.6mm wall thickness. Thinking about ordering some 8mm x 1mm and trying again.
Bag and load weighed in at 3kg.

I wonder whether going full triangular truss space frame might help? Would help give more strength at a similar weight at the cost of being (potentially much) more of a ball-ache to mitre and braze...

Mmm it might.
The tubing this one was made from is like 7mm od, 0.6mm wall thickness.
I think I need 2 1/2, 3 metres of tubing to make one rack and I just priced up 8mm od, 1mm wall and it’ll cost me more than just buying a full SQR set up :(

Have you tried with the block as low as possible on the seat post (as long as the rest does not foul the tyre obviously)?
Wrong alliums.
