  • At the complete other end of the scale. Next door neighbour has had her FSH 48k miles 2003 Fiesta automatic stood on the drive SORNed for 5 years after breaking her hip and losing confidence in driving. Husband has had plans forever to get rid. Talking the other day, she wanted rid. I offered her £125 she accepted. I charged the battery, it started first time. Took it for mot today after changing a bulb and filled screenwash. It passed with an advisory for a tyre.

Its gone off to my Niece now.

  • maybe offer her a few extra notes?

  • There is a reason the neighbour had lost confidence, evidenced by not one panel being unmarked.
I take your point though, i'll do the wine thing.

  • Just spoke to the place that has my 911, chap says they've now spent 50+ hours on re-trimming my drivers seat, said he's living in fear that I'll ask him to do the passenger side.

Well if you don't it won't match will it?

  • I'm probably about to buy a cheap car and while I know how to drive a car well and probably have more understanding of how they work than most I've never actually bought my own car, so I have no idea what I'm doing.

How does it work with transferring ownership? You give them the money, then they do it? Or do you do it? I think you basically need to use this page but not sure who's meant to do it: https://www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle

And if it's the seller, what if you give them the money then they don't do it?

What do people generally do about private seller test drives? You need to get insurance right? Who's cheap to cover a half hour test drive?

(This is complicated somewhat by social distancing).

I know tax isn't transferable now so you need to tax it once you've bought it over the phone or online with the DVLA. And obviously you need to get it insured. And I'd need to buy a parking permit from the council so I can park it outside my house.

Is there anything else? It's surprisingly hard to find all this info in one place.

I'd ask my Dad which is what I imagine most people do when they buy their first car but I want to rock up in my banging new motor and surprise him!

  • Honda Jazz?

  • Absolutely no way you'd catch me driving that noddy car.

Did you buy one in the end? ;p

    FN2 Civic 1.8. Hopefully with a pano sunroof 😎

  • Well if you don't it won't match will it?

I don't see that as a negative, necessarily.

  • I didnt, insurance cost for any car is way too high to justify, just bought a bike with same money.

  • FN2 Civic 1.8. Hopefully with a pano sunroof 😎

    Very nice.

  • How does it work with transferring ownership? You give them the money, then they do it

Generally, you transfer money, they give you the bottom of the V5 and you register yourself as the new owner (technically "the keeper" iirc).

  • Is there a post which has the master plan for the 911?

  • Yeh a cp thread would be wicked please

  • The V5 booklet contains all of the information on the vehicle and it’s registered keepers details.
There’s also a section for new owners. You fill out your details in the booklet, you get to keep a little slip from it as proof, a sort of receipt. Then the old owner sends off the paperwork and you should receive a new V5 with your details in the post from the DVLA.
(Having never bought a car myself either but have bought 2 motorbikes)

  • Yeh a cp thread would be wicked please

Changed the title of current projects to make it clear that a project does not have to be a bike

  • The V5C keeper change process can be done online if the previous V5C was issued in the last few years. You’ll still get a new one in the post, but don’t need to post anything.

  • Anyone on here who knows a butt ton about Golf MK2s by any chance?!

  • Would also love a CP thread. Generally speaking non bike CP threads would be cool. Always nice to see any project being done well!

  • A forum for current projects that aren't bikes https://www.lfgss.com/microcosms/1505/

  • Yesss! There are a few shed builds and home improvement projects that would ve right at home there!

  • It's nice to be around for history in the making like this

  • Only one JCB sticker away from being absolutely uncool

  • I think it'll be a bit gutless with that engine.
