True, when I say these days, the last game of that ilk I played was Far Cry 3 (well, Blood Dragon if we're being pedantic), though looking at the modern AC games they do look a hell of a lot like a Far Cry game in a historical setting.
Good to know about Wildlands, had more than a sneaking suspicion that they may have deviated from the slow paced, realistic, tactics-based shooter that I recall.

I got Wildlands on a whim and, despite being really tired of Far Cry esque ubi nonsense, something about the gameplay loop really grabbed me. Like really really grabbed me I think I squeezed just about all the content out of it, collected all the guns, etc etc. On the higher difficulties the gameplay shifts towards something approaching rewarding, but the main game is just invulnerable super soldier nonsense. I think a permadeath mode was introduced in a patch that was released maybe a week after I stopped playing it; at that point I thought it was best not to dive back in from the start... I only ever solo-ed it, but imagine messing about with a buddy would be lols.
That happened six years ago :)
Looks a little harsh in hindsight, the last two ACs have been vey good. I'm not even sure which one I was referring to in that post.
As for Ghost Recon, I tried Wildlands on a free-to-play weekend or something and it was shit. Have very fond memories of the old ones and it doesn't deserve to use the name.
