  • That's lovely. Ducati have really knocked it out of the park with that design methinks. As long as they don't keep milking it. It just looks rearing to go sitting there.

You had a sit on it? Also, mind me asking if you have two wheels?

  • Sticking float or worn float needle? I had some weird problems that I couldn't attribute to anything else. Turned out it was a combination of the float sticking (had been bent back and forth about 20x trying to get height correct) and the needle that meters in the fuel was leaking so it would keep flooding /getting way too high.
Even under a magnifying glass I couldn't see a difference between new and old ones.
Replaced needle carrier thing and seat and the float assembly. Literally took one tiny adjustment to get height correct and ita been mint ever since ( 3 years).
Carbs now need new main jet/needle as they are worn, can feel the pitting /roughness on your fingers. People riding behind say it smells of fuel when just pottering along but is Ok at higher throttle %

  • Hmm maybe. I had adjusted it back in January or whenever I put the longer rear shocks on, and checked it moved freely when I replaced some other parts like the choke assembly in March.

Next week I’ll devote a few hours to a serious carb strip down, not that I know what I’m doing!

  • It’s lovely in the flesh, a real step up from the “s”. Didn’t have a sit on it, but will do over the weekend.

Don’t mind you asking at all. No bike at the moment - I might have posted before, was taken out head on when out on my 748 by an overtaking car a while ago, single dad of three, made me reassess.

Have been looking at the mv f3 675 as a possible track bike, but not sure I’d get much use. Plenty of time to think

  • Ciren’s only down the road from me. Lots of great country lanes if you want to avoid the dual carriageway and actually enjoy the ride. Also very close to the green lanes I’ve been using

  • Yep that's tasty. Ironic how a having a track hack and exclusively riding circuits is probably safer than taking your chances on the roads. Nothing wrong with reassessing what's important in life although imagine looking at panigale in the garage has its own satisfaction.

Got the RSV's first track day next month. My strategy is going to be not shift down so much and use the torque to get me around tighter corners, anything to minimise that rear wheel wiggle.

  • Yep, read the post before hence hesitating to ask as it's a horrific situation to think about.

Reckon that's a solid idea to be honest. I can't feasibly get any spirited riding where I live now, so track makes sense down the line. That F3 seems to be a bit of a hidden gem. Do like them triples.

  • I can't feasibly get any spirited riding where I live now

People constantly drag race between the roundabouts here in Swindon, hatchbacks as much as motorcycles.

I stand firm that the country roads are great for riding around here, but you’d need to keep the spirit in check a little. Long gone are the days where the thrill of going fast and twisty is a good idea on open roads.

Even if you keep to the speed limit this still happens:

  • I've not ridden that area personally but I know it's a popular climb for cycling so I wonder if there's been a push from that side for reduced speeds. Bit annoying for bikers though as being narrow, there's not so much conflict. The article is a bit odd in that it says there've been basically no prosecutions for speeding, but doesn't mention how many collisions there've been while using the road within the speed limit. I would imagine if that was also basically none, it would have gone in.

I live near Whiteways and the road climb up to the biker cafe there can get a bit hairy when bikers/drivers choose to close-pass but mostly its fine and you get to see tonnes of cool vehicles.

  • Yea that’s what seemed strange to me too. Unless there were significant stats of collisions why would reducing speed limit help?

Then again, my anecdotal experience around Swindon has been a huge lack in speed limit enforcement. You could make the town and surrounding villages 20mph zones but it doesn’t stop the Parcelforce guy cutting me up at 50mph while I’m cycling.

  • Ponderosa is biking Mecca.
I’ve been going there all my life with my Dad and Uncle

It’s a very road policed area as it is because of the sheer number of bikers. I’ve not seen much bad riding. The roads around there are steep and twisty, there’s not much opportunity for speeding

  • Holy shit, a little busier than Whiteways!

  • How long have you gotta wait for a bacon sandwich?

  • I’m veggie 🙈

Vegetarianism hasn’t reached rural wales yet

  • @PhilDAS I’m not sure it ever will...

Went straight south from Wroughton. Normally I’d turn West onto the open section of Ridgeway along until Hackpen Hill. I once saw a Triumph Tiger go straight up the hill and into the distance so went and checked it out.

What a great long track!! Little bit of mud sections, lots of varying degrees of gravel, and a couple seriously rutted lengths where you have to choose which sequence of clay-chalk-mud puddles you want to try survive.

Stacking it was not an option, nor was slowing down. Some guys were watching from their land rover so I had to look like I knew what I was doing.

Guy on the far end was riding a 90’s MBK mountain bike, proper retro-cool French thing.

    Hagons need a wash.

  • If spark plugs are fouled from someone leaving the choke on and me not realising until the engine stalled, will exess soot and stuff burn off by itself and the plugs teturn to normal or do I have to clean or replace?

  • Run at high revs in gear and should clear, how long was the choke left on?

    4 stroke or two stroke?

  • 4 stroke.
Choke was left on maybe 15 minutes of proper sluggish riding until complete stall. It’s been running okay-ish since with a bit of farting.

  • I have listed my 2018 Yamaha XSR700 on Gumtree.

If anyone is interested, I am not after £4.5k, I just put that figure up to sift the timewasters who would offer me sub £3k...

  • Italian tune up. My favourite.

  • Had a couple of hundred mile spin yesterday with friends up the coast then inland and over to Ojai. Bloody pissed down in the canyons in Malibu, hence the inland diversion. Glorious through the orange groves near Filmore. Bike is handy, likes the faster stuff better but still a gas in the mountain twisties.

The only mild gripe is a large nail in the new back tyre that I need to plug.

  • Not the end of the world.

As jung called it, Italian tune up once warm will clear things out.

  • Cool. I did ride it a but hard yesterday and when I pulled the plugs today they looked fine.
I was hoping that would have explained the slight misfires around 5k rpm, though.

  • @Vince - What are you getting?
