Was there something wrong with the pelago you used to have?
Can't say there was. Though the panniers tend to be quite high up and forward on the Pelago, so I wanted to know how a more low rider kind of rack would handle. I also wanted experiment with moving some weight off the front; the tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat that were normally on top of the rack's wide platform. @My-maden-name might be onto something...
Very happy with the rack though; rides great with those big 20L rear panniers loaded up.

Front / back panniers debate is reaching "my gearing is best" levels of banality
-

While I'm here, my gearing is best, and that bike needs guards etc.

Classic set up would be C’dale bags front and back.

Bodged a Triple FD / Double crankset & brifter combo, fitted new mudguards and swapped around Carradices to get my old Kaff rolling again in a rackless FBNPNA setup.
Edit: also swapped back to mini-v from canti. I might put the original headtube cable stops back into use again so the clamp on downtube stop setup can go. It'd been off the road since the 5600 triple brifter exploded beyond repair.
Edit 2: ordering mg flaps from RAW unless there's better options?

: )We’ve been a Ortleib dealer since 84, first dealer in New England. I think 36 years at this point can be considered classic ;)

You with Harris?

Yep. Mostly use WTB Volt now, which is about half way between those two models.

You with Harris?
WheelWorks. In the oughts our smaller shop, Ace was the busiest bike shop in the US per square ft. We also had a rotating staff with Fat City/Indy Fab/Merlin/Seven.
Harris is weird, it’s a pretty small shop that’s famous for someone who was a pretty shitty mechanic. Sheldon had almost encyclopedic knowledge of useless bike bits, but you’d never want to give him a wrench. They were pretty big with the Randonerds due to another mechanic, Elton Pope-Lance.
PS if it sounds like I’m shitting on Sheldon I’m not. He was funny, caring and nice. There’s just this legendary mechanic thing attached to him that’s not true. He was more of I dunno, a bike archivist?

Ha, cool.
I had a Canadian only Team Chance (not actually a Fat Chance) back in the day. -

Ahh I dunno if you’ve seen my CP thread, but I have the last Fat Chance made in Somerville.

Sweet, always loved the aesthetic of those bikes, was disappointed in my Team though for obvious reasons.
