  • Is there a 'normal weight tent recommendations' thread? My parents want to invest in some good quality camping kit for campsite holidays – something comfy, weatherproof and durable that they'll be transporting in a car. Ideally something they can stand up in/cook in the porch of.

I don't know anything about non-lightweight brands, so any recommendations greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • A Dutch tent like a De Waard might be good, or Erdman Schmidt if they don't mind going second hand.

  • The best non-lightweight tents are made by Hilleberg. They are exceptionally well made and hold their value extremely well. They are not cheap but you can expect a lifetime of hard use from one.
If they don’t want to spend that much, MSR and Big Agnes would be the brands to look for.

  • Wild Country (the cheap offshoot of Terra Nova) are fairly decent. I've had a Hoolie 2 for about 5 years, used fairly frequently and it's still going strong. They do a couple of big stand up in tents

  • Bell tent with an awning?

Else they might like the airbeam stuff for ease of putting up?
