I got it from Will's senate clue; a bit of googling led me to the link with the quote. One of these days I may even be in London's famous London when a tag I recognize pops up...

Malet street gardens feature in a scene in Day of the Triffids, the opening lines of which were in the first clue. It's in Bloomsbury, which links back to my Taviton st tag, as does Senate house (which is the next scene in the book and film) being part of UCL.
I remember seeing Malet st gardens for the first time and realising it was the place in the book. Recently I've been cycling round central London a lot and with both the British Museum and ULU being closed the area has been super quiet and as close to how it would have been in the book as it will ever get; no one to be seen, nothing moving. Eerie and exhilarating at same time.

This is why I always check the latest state of the page before uploading.

So I was a bit too simplistic and just looked for Wyndham, which took me to Wyndham Place initially. I did discover this in my internet wanderings ....

Is this a clue?

• #22619
I thought I recognised that. There are no railings to either side of that gate and there used to be an installation of sensors and speakers there that made the noise of tinging a stick on the "ghost" railings. Apparently it was significant since the railings were some of the many that got chopped off during the second world war to be made into stuff (but apparently all just got dumped in the Thames as there wasn't actually any call for low-grade iron).

New: Sorry for pushing the boundaries, but this one is easy. It's really near the river - but it sounds like you've got the wrong one.

I really think there is a strong argument for keeping the game more central, so that more people can take part. An 'easy' one isn't easy to get for most people if it's a 2 hour round trip.
-
• #22624
I disagree - I've learned a lot about parts of London I've never even heard of through this game, and the tags can get carried a long way quite quickly if people are commuting in and out.
If it was central I'm sure a lot of people would be less rather than more likely to get involved.
What would your definition of "central" be, anyway? Inside the Circulars would be quite central for the forumengers of Plumstead, Chingford or Ruislip.

Yeah, you do have a point. Although my memory of trying to find the Observatory in Mill Ffing Hill, along a nasty dual carriageway, stays with me as one of the weirder moments of my generally forgettable life. So there’s that.
Well I must have it wrong.
