@hoops was the purveyor of these trinkets... maybe he’ll make you another
Yes, of course he was. Back when he was a snotty little kid who made shit hoovers.
I wish I still had mine.

He was helping architects with scale models of their erections back then, no?

Getting the spok a week tomorrow.
If anyone (ANYONE? BUELLER? ANYONE?) Can advise on the chainline before then, I will get the BB, sprocket and chain sorted so that I can have this bad boy riding in time for the Pubs To Open!
The FSA Gimondi crankset give a 45mm chainline on a 110.5mm BB.
So, if the Spok has a 42mm chainline (????), I need a 109mm bottom bracket.
20 internet high five points to anyone who can confirm / deny the chainline of the Spok.
There MUST be someone still living who has memories that date back to the fixypocalypse of 2007 and once knew this stuff? Or can do a better job of internetting than me?
In fact, I'm off to the AQA thread where I will invoke ... The Tester.

Surely a chainline off a few mm to one side is perfectly in the spirit of this bike?
Embrace the crrr-crrr-crrr as you’re pedalling around!

How are you going to reduce the chainline by 3mm overall by shortening bb by 1.5mm?
Quick maf
-
• #135
By doing my maths again?
Ideally I would need 110.5 - 6 = 104.5mm. seems unlikely.

• #136
Looks like 103 is as close as you can get. Did you want me to see if I have one you can test fit?
edit - I only have a 107 but you are welcome to use it for a test fit

Aha, I had looked at that but not done the necessary research.
@vince had a spok with a sugino rdw messenger on a 103mm BB. Sugino specifications tell me that that combo yields a 45mm chainline, just like my FSA Gimondi on a 110.5mm BB
@vince, can you remember how sweet the chainline was on that setup?

Get a matching road bike.

I have never ridden with a chainline that was poor or if I did, I would have used a 1/8th chain and 3/32 ring/sprocket to offset!
Sorry I can't help more!

I think the rear Aerospoke is 43.5mm
-
• #141
^^ excellent thanks
^ that throws a spanner in the works. Are you trolling?

So Brick Lane Bikes sell the Encore track wheel which is a successor to the Aerospoke. I emailed them about the chainline.
They told me that the Spok and the Encore share a chainline and that it is 44mm.
Grrrrr.
This is annoying.

• #143
I think they're wrong. I'm quite sure it's 43.5mm

Only way to really find out is to ring ASM. He's in the Far East though so can you wait until 2am our time to call him?

• #145
Since when do we listen to BLB around here?
-
• #146
Amen.
-
• #147
True.
I've said fuck it and ordered the 110.5mm FSA BB that FSA recommend to pair with the Gimondi, from SJS. Last one in stock, so I decided to go for it.
