Are those the ones with the jubilee clips and t-shaped plates? They look more substantial than the various p-clips I have used in the past and I've not died yet. Go for it. I'd trust most Surly stuff to be fairly robust anyway.

Yep that's the ones... I've ordered some. I think that my biggest worry is the alu forks rather than steel... And that it's going to be on someone else's bike, not mine..
Not dying yet is probably as good a recommendation as I can expect. Good to hear that..
Hello all.
Looks like I'm going to have to use clamp on mounts, probably the surly mid blade ones, for a front rack on my aluminium fork. The idea of squashing the fork blades to carry stuff fills me with horror, but people must do it or the mounts wouldn't exist..
Has anyone got any experience with this kind of thing, either to totally put me off the idea, or to sell me on the idea..?
