Also, I’ve been looking at a pair of thickslicks (mainly for appearances sake because I’m being that guy 🙄). How do they run on gravel?

I guess you haven’t tried searching for forum mentions of those tyres…
Re 23mm Marathon Pluses they’ll be fine on towpaths, except for the lumpy cobbly bits in the wet. Canals aren’t usually very deep at the edges, apart from by the locks.

Also damn people not a fan of those tires it seems! Good to know
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Due to a lack of knowledge I’ve been a bit paranoid about riding my track bike on canal paths and riverside path, gravel etc lately as it’s running on 23’s. I’m not worried about the control side of things but I’m quite worried about punctures from stones etc as they are thin tyres.
Is this a load of nonsense? I think I’m overly concerned as my brain tells me they’re more suitable for road at this width; or does the width only effect control of the bike on gravel etc not puncture proofing? I’m running schwalbe marathon plus. Just my rides take me into canal paths and gravel riverside paths quite a lot and I’d like to ride them with some more confidence as I’m always worried about loose stones etc giving me a puncture. Thanks in advance!
