My eldest is on an Orbea 20 inch thing which I really rate. It's like a proper little mountain bike. Their kids range is great, including the 24in as they do a versions with different levels of bling - ours is rigid and v brakes, but with good tyres and lighter ally fork. It's been perfect.
Thank you. A bit of careful eBay-ology and luck has netted me a very clean and unused 2 year old Rim braked hard tail Orbea Trail 24 for half of full retail. Bargain. Will post pics after I collect. I owe you beer.
That £200 white one? Good deal. I watched a few just to see what the prices were doing as I owe my eldest a new one this Christmas/Birthday. She's 8 in January so a bit easier to justify the cost.
Also, my other tip would be run the tyres super low pressure. They just don't weigh anything like us, so can get away with crazy low pressure and it provides that little bit of suspension and extra grip.

They also do a rigid hydro disk version, and then a bouncy pimped one with an air fork.
All a bit cheaper than other options at same kinda spec I think.
