  • Anyone tried one of those vibrating massage guns that are popping up in all the adverts at the moment? Nowt wrong with my foam roller but I think I’d love to pummel my calf with one.

Girlfriend has a Theragun. I like it.
Feels like it's doing something. Not sure how much difference it really makes but it's fairly satisfying.
I ordered the new mini recently. Should arrive next week. Will see how it compares to the prev generation posh one (G3 Pro) that I've used before.

  • Bro has the theragun, it’s v good but I couldn’t believe how expensive they were when I looked them up.

I ordered a cheap version off amazon that still cost me £100, but I’m sending it back as it’s not half as powerful or satisfying as the theragun

  • Slight improvement on yesterday’s nettle diving spectacular, went at a hard effort 5km straight out the door. Hoped to have sub 7 pace but just fell short with an overall 22min time. Long way to my goal of sub 20, but felt I’m starting to make progress again. Checked strava and I’ve only been back running for about 10 weeks so feeling pretty positive!

  • bit of an odd one while not specifically running its to do with exercise in general, wasn't sure where to post.

i work as sport coach here in hk as you can imagine its hot and humid now in summer and im sweating my bits off but my sweat has nasty vinegary almost ammonia smell i have looked at diet and stopped drinking and cut out a huge amount of crap, crisps chocolate and stuff but still no joy.
has anyone else experienced this and how did you change it ???
ive googled but haven't seen any good solid advice .

  • I'm guessing here (IANAD, etc.) but the ammonia smell sounds a bit like ketosis, which is where the body starts to use fat for energy instead of carbs, cos you've run out of glycogen stores. I've experienced this on very odd occasions, and usually when it's hot, so it could be exacerbated by being dehydrated. If so, my guess is that you just want to avoid being under-fueled or dehydrated as far as possible. Make sure your diet has plenty of carbs and stay well hydrated. (Eating lots of fruit and veg will help on both counts.) Carb up before big sessions and obviously make sure you've got rehydration to hand if out on a long run.

...edit... And make sure you replace electrolytes (salt, potassium, etc.) by using sports drinks or similar.

  • 👍👍 Thanks for this I recently started using the sports drinks alot more I will make sure to eat enough, It could be this as generally I leave with out breakfast and have 3 classes 1st thing.

  • Pocari Sweat! You can get sachets to make at home, plus in HK you can buy the giant bottles. I genuinely don't think I would survive summers here without Pocari Sweat.

  • 😆 Yep that's the one I've been getting. It's the nicest one out there not too sweet been mixing the sachets in litre bottles 👍👍👍👍.
    all hail pocari sweat ✊

  • The fact Pocari sweat isn’t widely available in the U.K. still blows my mind. It’s branding is on point, tastes great and is an excellent post run electrolyte drink.

  • The Thera gun is really the one to go for as the others are all just re-branded Chinese jobbies. You can find them on dhgate.

  • Last Monday I got a 10k pb which I was quite happy about as it had felt like a slog of a run...and this morning I took 2 mins off that time :) A silver lining to this lockdown life. Going to aim to get to 10 miles soon and then a half marathon before summer is out.

  • If you want some sachets I can send you some?

  • Cheers dude - I should be back in asia in September if travel stuff eases but if not I may take you up on that kind offer. :)

  • cool just let me know.

same for anyone else who fancys some pocari sweat

  • Someone (DST maybe?) mentioned a website that collates your Strava stats and I can't remember what it's called - anyone care to help my failing memory out?

  • Smashrun
    Veloviewer
    Runalyze
    ?

  • Elevate (previously Stravistix)

  • Nope, none of those. I think it's the guys name with some other term - it's a tiny, hobby site that just gives you the times you did the various notable distances in your recent runs.

  • veloviewer probably does it

  • I'm sure you can drill down and get way more data too...

  • Wrote up my weekend shenanigans. TLDR: 61.6km over 48 hours, around 8hrs sleep in total, a lot of rain, 3 bloody marys, not many showers, a lot of laundry, not enough food.

  • Epic. I want to try that one day.
