  • will small wheels help?

  • Im thinking they will lower the top tube

  • No hills. Neither my frame, nor the bike's frame, could take it.

  • speaking of which. Anyone any date ideas or route suggestions?

Sarf End would be good for less hills but Brighton would be good too. Could also head to Oxford. I'll be out of the country from the last week of July and all of August so could only make before then or after. My biek pretty much fell to bits after the last ride so is going to be needing a rebuild. The joys of old bike ownership ¡

  • The main thing I’d be worried about is pedal / crank arm strike from dropping the bb height. But I’ve never tried it before, so go for it if you reckon it’ll do the trick!

  • I was thinking Southend as well.

  • Don't don't do it! Pedal strike with a too-low bb or, in my case, too-long cranks, can lead to a nasty accident, as I found to my cost.

  • A Croc D'Aune delta brake has come into my possession. I'm considering putting it on this.

Yes it's about 6 years too young for the frame but I can live with that.

I can't decide if it will look good or not.

I also don't know if it will work with the flat bar lever that operates the current center pull Weinmman. I suspect yes, but would like to know for sure.

    Any thoughts?

  • No one?

  • Without actually seeing it with my own eyes, I just can’t envisage it looking that great..but i don’t really think they look that good on many bikes tbh.. Coupled with the rumours they offer soppy braking as well i’d sooner sell it and make a few squids :)

Cool as a ‘thing’ though? Maybe..

  • I can't decide if it will look good or not.

    Not.

  • I think I agree but they are just so iconic. I want to have one on a bike, but I can't be building a bike around a brake.

  • Luckily, I have a glass display box with shiny bike parts in, mounted on the wall. This will fit in nicely.

  • I hardly ever ride this and am having a bit of a stable reshuffle - some new bikes are coming in so some old ones are going.

But, a) this bike holds a pretty special place in my heart and b) I can't imagine anyone would be overly interested in buying it.

On the latter point, I have no idea if it is true or not.

So, as a guage of interest, who thinks that this would be of interest if I put it up for sale?

  • I reckon it would be of interest to many depending on price - I’d think you’d get the most interest off folk on retrobike, give the age of the frame and the general direction the classifieds have taken on here ie modern roadie etc...

  • Hmm. Good point. I've never been on retrobike.

  • Boo hiss, go sell your nice boring sensible bikes instead. :)

  • This is a valid point.

  • Keep this in case you maybe want to ride it in the future :)

  • Never be sentimental with bikes. If you’re not riding it what’s the point in keeping it? Get a bike you will ride instead.

  • Both views have merit.

But storage space is what tips the balance

  • I rode this today, out on a little jaunt with the kids.

    It's nice.

    I'll keep it.

  • Ha. Been there!
