I guess you haven’t tried searching for forum mentions of those tyres…
Re 23mm Marathon Pluses they’ll be fine on towpaths, except for the lumpy cobbly bits in the wet. Canals aren’t usually very deep at the edges, apart from by the locks.

Also, I’ve been looking at a pair of thickslicks (mainly for appearances sake because I’m being that guy 🙄). How do they run on gravel?
