Converting workstand to bolt through

Posted on
  • I have an Tacx spider workstand that is a few years old. This means it only supports QR attachment. I ordered a pack of adaptors from Tacx but none were the right size.
I’ve now ordered some lengths of 12mm internal diameter aluminium pipe which I’ll cut to length and jubilee clip to the existing mounts.
Has anyone else done this? Is it doomed to failure? Anything I should be aware of?
If it works I’ll also do the same to my Scicon TSA 2.0 frame to it will take bolt through axles as there is no formal upgrade kit.

  • I saw the end caps for these on Amazon I think, were like £40?

  • I think this is what I got albeit directly from Tacx. I will check again on the diameters.

  • Eventually found something filling an image that came up on my insta feed. Sold as a conversion kit for a roof rack they look like they’ve down the job and saved me getting a new stand (only bought the front axle option for now).
There are a number of diameter options including a 12mm option which is not on the adverts but I saw online that they were included.
The fittings a bit tight onto the spider QR fixing so I’ve nipped just under 1mm off the brackets using the hand Dremel I got a few months ago.
Here’s a pic without the bike. When I use it in anger I’ll post some thoughts on how good the bracket is.
