Good list. Like you I wasn't aware of many of them but that's not the first time critics have mentioned just how rare it is to see "normal" black family life in Second Coming.
I watched My Brother the Devil last night but if falls firmly into the inner city drama category which I'm guessing a lot of people might label as a "gang film". It was pretty good with a lot going on but the presence of Said Taghmaoui made it hard not to think about La Haine and what an impact that movie made.
Carrying on from the recommendation of Babylon as a film to watch for the black british experience, the guardian has put together a top ten of films (Babylon) included to expand on that.
Have to be honest, even as a black film maker, most of them I haven’t heard of.
