I imagine the resistance they can provide is limited?
Depends on what training plan you are following.
I'm doing all my Trainer Road sessions on rollers at the moment and, with a 11-23 cassette and a 50 tooth front chainring, and I've not run out of gears yet and that includes some vo2 max sessions.

Bought a set second hand (almost unused) about 4 months ago - best £100 I've spent in ages.
I haven't used anything else (smart / modern), so can't comment on the resistance limitations and been doing hour long steady state sessions so hasn't been a concern (I'm pretty much done in after an hour @23mph on the middle resistance setting). I did wonder about setting up some sort of bowden cable arrangement so the resistance setting could be changed without dismounting but not felt the need really.
Anyone used the Elite Arion Mag Rollers? Someone's selling some locally, look interesting. Never tried a turbo before, but I didn't mind using 'dumb' rollers when I had them. This looks to be the best of both world, but I imagine the resistance they can provide is limited?
