  • Anything acidic will do it. Lemon juice, vinegar, or dissolve one of the citric acid tabs.

  • I was still drinking one of your experimental kilo bags from October/November in late march. Tasted great. In fact, I liked the the last bag more than the first.

I was 3 kilos deep at that stage

  • Nice one. Keeps on giving.

  • Nice! Will give it a go

  • If any of you guys buy descaling sachets from supermarkets, it's just citric or lactic acid solution in there. You can buy 1kg bags of citric acid for a few quid online.

£2 for 75ml of citric acid solution or £5 for 1kg of powder. Our shower heads, kettle, washing machine, coffee machine and dishwasher have never been cleaner!

  • shower exfoliator scrub

Neanderthal Australian males like yours truly do not 'exfoliate' unless you count road rash?

I'll mention it to the missus though, she likes coconut.

  • That's a big day!

  • Your bulk buying bagel bits turns into considered cheap coffee cleaning

  • Yep, got a kilo tub of crystalised citric acid for cleaning my machine. One thing to bear in mind is that it can damage chrome so be vigilant in quickly wiping any spills on chromed surfaces.

  • It's not always citric acid, sometimes it's phosphoric (and I want to say oxalic acid as well for some reason). Unfortunately it's almost never stated and I'm not brave enough to taste a dab to find out!

  • I had some sachets that said lactic acid on the ingredients list once.

  • Treated myself to Comandante C40 grinder.

Never even thought about spending £199 on hand grinder, but bumped into a video from the factory which was interesting enough to do more research on them.
The more I read about them, the more my need of owning was getting stronger.

Few months back got Wilfa Svart as was tired of hand grinding on Hario and then Porlex and now I’m getting another hand grinder. Logics...

Anyway, I knew that it’s gonna be good, but not that good.

The quality of the whole thing is just indescribable. Feels super nice in hand, suoer fast and super easy to grind even on finest setting.

All particles even and with no coffee dust.

It literally puts smile on my face every time I use it.

Including a shitty image of today’s test how fine it can grind.

Left: Wilfa Svart on finest setting
    Middle: 5 clicks on Comandate
    Right: 1 click on Comandate

The 1 click turns the beans literally in powder.

Only down side is the weight - 636g. Not so friendly for travels, but will always find some space to fit it in no matter what!

  • Hoping the forum can help me here...

I have a GAGGIA NEW BABY 06 CLASS D that I bought from @Vince of this parish.
Probably the best money I've ever spent.

I could hear the sound of water sizzling when it came into contact with the hot body of the boiler.
I've removed the cover and can see that theres a small leak at one of the silicone tubes.

I've figured out that I need this: https://www.mrbean2cup.co.uk/gaggia-reinforced-silicon-tube-60-cm-long

    and some of these: https://www.mrbean2cup.co.uk/oetiker-clip-95mm

So basically a length of braided silicone hose with a 5mm ID and an 8.9mm OD.

It seems I'll need a special pair of pliers to crimp those Oetiker clips too?
Prices seem to vary from wildy expensive at £60 down to a more reasonable £14 like these ones:

    https://www.zoro.co.uk/shop/hand-tools/pincers/o-clip-end-closing-pincers/p/ZT1009294X?utm_source=cj&utm_medium=affiliate&pub_w_id=7947610&utm_campaign=affiliates&cjevent=ef48ca60b13911ea83f201290a180513

But before I buy the bits in the above links, is there a better or cheaper alternative? Or is the price for the hose just the going rate?

Am I on the right track here?

  • Any reason why you couldn't just use a screw actuated jubilee clip?

  • Another option would be hose clips like this. Not sure what pressures you'd be dealing with in a Gaggia but I've used both in pressurised systems before.

  • Hey, I'm really not sure. I'm a complete novice here, never done any repair work on a coffee machine before.
I'd thought about the jubilee clip, but where it attaches it might be tricky to screw in.
I think from memory the machines runs at 15bar, no idea if a jubilee clip could hold that?

After a bit more googling this morning I've found the oetiker clips at 79p. Still can't find any suitable hose any cheaper so assuming it's probably best just to stick with the branded one above.

  • Just looked in my parts bin and have a bag of 9.5mm jubilee clips that are rated to 203psi. Assuming all jubilee clips are equal, I think they'd work fine if they actually fit.

  • Oh thats interesting, thanks. I'll have a look at where the hose connects when I'm home again to see if it might fit. It really is a mess of tubes and wires in a tight squeeze. I'll post up a photo

  • Dont let me put you off buying mooar toolz...but if you think you might have a hard time getting a screwdriver in there, you might also have trouble getting pliers in.

  • New machine day !!

New grinder might be in order next
