Do you think that one is pregnant? The large house spiders I used to see very often in my family home back up north had much smaller bodies and longer legs. I rarely see them down in London, mostly the type with shorter legs and larger bodies.
Not sure why that is. Like this

TBH I have not a clue.
Maybe similar species...
Maybe male / female...
Both have the habit of surprise!

That ones a boy. Leggier, with a small body and larger palps (club like things on the front of his face).
You tend to notice them more as they go wandering about the place, looking for love. The ladies tend rock stay put in their webs so you might be less likely to stumble across them unless you go looking

@Oliver Schick Which one?
The moth
The bee
Or the spider?
Or all three? -

The moth.
It's difficult to see which post is being replied to without quoting, which I probably should have done.

Poor spiders.
Ugly bastards.

Amazing colours. I take it you didn't do anything to them, i.e. enhancing them?
The world of insects is just miraculous.

Seeing that caterpillar reminds me of being a kid on eof my chores was going through the veggie patch removing them. I always liked them and felt a bit bad so I aways left a few much to mums annoyance.

Lots out in the garden today. Could not get close enough to the meadow browns. But a tiger moth, some Eristalis hoverflies and a green thing.

After slandering the efficacy of bug hotels, seems I have someone checked in on a long stay. Any ideas what it could be? Also have a solitary bee staying for a bit.

Have a look around nearby, and you might see which leaves they're using. Mine like to use the nearby Beech hedge

As I mentioned on the gardening thread, the drilled out log seems far more popular than the pre-built house. I've had no luck at all with the house on the left for the past two years, and only a month after putting up this new log, I've seen loads of bees investigating it :-)

Quite a few of these spiders in the flat just now. Slow moving friendly type things.
