  • The heads are undersized and shallow so if you have a balled Allen key you can wreck them easily. Best to use a high quality Allen bit in a torque wrench. Threadlock is helpful too...

  • Actually Chas is right, I believe higher series Shimano chainsets have preload caps made of alloy, not plastic.

  • Yes, the crank arm fixing bolt are made from plastic but Shimano do have metal alternate options though for the higher end stuff.

    That said, it's a preload bolt and does nothing IF the crank arm bolts are done up to proper torque.
