  • Cheap cotton is prone to shrinking if abused.

  • true, I recommend cleaning them with a rag and some spray glass cleaner, first time I did I was amazed by the amount of crap on the rag tbh wipers hold a lot of grime etc.
a good clean with this method @cyclotron3k and you'll be surprised how well the wipe again (and for the next pair of wiper if you replace, it takes only a couple of minutes to do but is worth it)

  • Someone appears to have obtained some phones from O2 using my wife's details and even after a couple of hours on the phone providing all details two weeks ago and getting a case reference from them, and the fact she's been an O2 customer for about 10 years, they seem to be continuing along the enforcement/default/trash your credit rating path and haven't contacted her as promised with their investigations team.

Anyone else had something like this happen to them? Is this going to be a Kafka-esque nightmare?

  • email the chairman, maybe @Howard had this idea.

  • You could also try cleaning your windscreen. Toothpaste is good and leaves your windscreen tasting nice! It clearly doesn't need help with its gums so good standard cheap toothpaste and a damp cloth/microfibre.

  • Not exactly the same but I had an issue with my number being cloned and the phone company (three in this case) were absolutely fucking useless and eager to divorce themselves from any issues.

  • Any suggestions for a payment app that will allow me to accept monthly payments from customers for free?

Nobody does this for monthly or one-off payments because what's the business model?

  • Chest strap heart rate monitors

I always found the old style Garmin ones were pretty consistent until they died.

Currently not satisfied with the newer style Garmin one (with the sensor that’s attached by poppers. It tends to be quite erratic, I doubt my heart is going at 185bpm before I have started exercising. What do people suggest that doesn’t cost the earth?

  • My very old Coospo one from dealxtreme has been long lasting and reliable, not too sure they do an ant+ version only any longer. Found this one on amazon

  • Try and find the old version.

  • Anyone has a used and worn WI splined track cog going spare?

  • I'll go look in the box in the shed when I take the bins out. Might have one. Can't remember if I bought more than one when I bought my PowerTap Track hub.

Checking my records I bought mine from Sideways Cycles back in 2016.

    http://www.sidewayscycles.co.uk/products/index.php?id=821&clid=12

It might still be going as there's a note about operating through Covid-19 (although it's dated 2017 some time but I guess that's just the clock that's wrong on the blogging software). Looking back I see I had to email them (Tim) to find out what stock they had, there was nothing listed on the site.

You can usually also find them on eBay.

  • Decathlon been bombproof for me

  • Anyone has a used and worn WI splined track cog going spare?

    I have a 17T and an 18T, both 1/8".

They're unused. I ordered them from Hubjub in preparation for the fixed hub appearing and then there was a stock issue so I ordered an 18T from Sideways Cycles just in case. Guess I never used them.

£25 each (what they cost me back in 2014). Collection from SW15 (or nearby) or I can post for a bit more for postage.

  • What is the mid price point track hub these days? I can't seem to find much between Phil Wood/ Paul and budget.

Or alternatively if I'm looking for a quality hub, double or single fixed 32H, what should i be looking at thats not Phil Wood money?

  • There's a generalised effect in the modern economy that there is no longer any middle, everything is either cheap (but not always nasty) or it has at least 100% luxury tax on top of whatever added value (if any) it's bringing to the table.

Fortunately, you don't have to worry about that with track hubs, just get Novatec and stop trying to kid yourself that paying more is in any way worthwhile.

  • Thanks, this basically reaffirms my original thinking before disappearing down a rabbit hole, Novatec it is!

  • just get Novatec and stop trying to kid yourself that paying more is in any way worthwhile

Does this also apply to road hubs?

  • Would love them and very decent price too!

This however required for a botch job of a freewheel (not me) hence the need of a cog on the fixed side.

  • Does this also apply to road hubs?

In principle, but there is more than one manufacturer to choose from since it's less niche than track.

  • Quadlock. Dunno if they have an S10e specific case, but I use a Ringke case and the Quadlock universal mount. Not had any problems with it or any of the previous phones I've used it with.

Edit: oops, very late on that.

  • Which other manufacturers are worth considering in that segment?

  • I like bitex.

  • Which other manufacturers

Bitex have their fans, apparently the Miche road hubs are fine, and obviously Shimano are good, with diminishing returns in terms of value for money once you get past 105. DT350 get a passing mark, Hope RS4 does nothing to justify being 50% more expensive.

For racing, either actual or cosplay, you get whatever hubs are in the middle of your factory wheels, so the question is irrelevant. Cheap ones from Mavic, Shimano and Fulcrum/Campag are all fine, you might as well skip straight past anything mid-price because they're pointless, and then you're into proper racing wheels where you're buying on the basis of the rim aeros and you just have to hope that the manufacturer hasn't done something stupid in the middle.
