I dunno. The talk in the house is still "5 year plan" stage and throwing ideas around.
I don't think moving out of London is going to solve some of the unhappiness that is generating the "where else could we live" and would throw up unknown unknowns. As well as known unknowns.

If my family wasn't SE based we could go anywhere, rather than paying £1m for a shitty two up two down and being a wage slave 4 lyfe so that the drive to my parents isn't that awful.

Oh... Sad times. Is this a serious thing or are you spitballing?
There are plenty of beautiful places within commute distance of Edinburgh. South, places like Berwick on the border and north up the coast to Dundee. It's all stunning and accessible.
I'd love to do the same but I think too many elderly parents and family in/around London for it to be feasible.
